MOUNT EATON CHURCH STATEMENT OF FAITH

MOUNT EATON CHURCH STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and that it as written by men uniquely and divinely inspired, and that it is inerrant and infallible in its autographs. It is our only and all-sufficient rule of faith and practice (Il Timothy 3:16).

(2 Timothy 3:15-17) and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. (NAS95).

(1 Thessalonians 2:13) For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. (NAS95)

We believe that there is only one true and living God, manifesting Himself in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, yet one in essence and power. We believe God is the Creator of heaven and earth, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power. We rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayers and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

(Matthew 28:19) "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, (NAS95)

(Luke 3:22) and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased." (NAS95)

We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God. Conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, sinless in His life, making atonement for the sin of the world by His death on the cross. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension into heaven, His high priestly intercession for His people and His personal, visible return to the world according to His promise.

(Philippians 2:8-11) Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (NAS95)

We believe in the personality of the Holy Spirit and His ministry to reveal Christ to men, to convict them of sin in order to affect repentance, and inspire faith in Christ for the regeneration of their souls and the sanctification of their conduct. We believe that the Holy Spirit baptizes the believer into the body of Christ and indwells the believer to work in Him the sovereign purpose of God’s grace.

(John 15:26) "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, (NAS95)

(1 Corinthians 2:10-11) For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. (NAS95)

We believe that all men by nature and by choice are sinners, but that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” We believe therefore, that those who accept Christ as their Lord and Savior will rejoice forever in God’s presence and those who refuse to accept Christ, as Lord and Savior will be forever separated from God.

(Romans 3:23) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (NAS95)

(Romans 5:12-15) Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned-- for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many. (NAS95)

We believe in the church - a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and of which all “regenerated” people are members. We believe that a local visible church is a company of believers joined in a credible confession of faith, and associated for worship, work, and fellowship to the greater glory of God.

(1 Corinthians 12:11-14) But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills. For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. (NAS95)
