What Is Mental Health?

Mental health is "a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to contribute to his or her community" Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Many factors contribute to mental health problems, including: ? Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry ? Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse ? Family history of mental health problems

? Emotional Wellbeing is the ability to practice stress-management techniques, be resilient, and generate the emotions that lead to good feelings. Emotional health can lead to success in work, relationships and health.

? In the past, researchers believed that success made people happy. Newer research reveals that it's the other way around. Happy people are more likely to work toward goals, find the resources they need and attract others with their energy and optimism -- key building blocks of success.

? To develop emotional well-being, we need to build emotional skills -- skills like positive thinking, emotion regulation, and mindfulness ,

The Biblical Perspective of the Mind

? The part of humans where thoughts are formed, it is the place of perception and where decisions good and evil are born. The mind is viewed form different perspectives and generally overlaps in meaning.

? In the OT words that refer to mind or reason are generally overlapped with Heart, spirit and soul.

? They are used to cover a wide range of meaning and you find that they describe the inner, invisible part of us humans. The words used are quite limited and can serves various purposes. It is not unusual for the overlaps to refer to the seat of a person's thought and emotional life, the emotions and more widely used to describe the inner person in the new testament "the new man"
