Physical Layout of Business

Physical Layout of Business (20 Points)

This project is one that is having you, the business owner; think about the layout of your business’s physical space. Your assignment is 1)Tell where your business is going to be located. Is it going to be in a strip mall, downtown, office building, etc. Be specific here and tell why your business will be located where you have chosen, 2) To make a floor layout of your business. The textbook can help you here (chapter 8).

Things that I am looking for in a retail operation:

1. The overall store layout.

2. Where the entrance is.

3. Where the checkout is located.

4. Where the merchandise is going to be located, and where the most popular merchandise will be located.

5. Where storage space is to be located.

6. Where merchandise will come into the store.

7. List spacing (amount of feet) between the isles (if you have isles).

8. Total square footage of the entire facility.

9. Is there going to be an office? Most will.

10. Show parking.

11. Every business must have bathrooms for their employees.

If you are opening a business that is a service business then you will need to layout how the office space looks like. This will include:

1. The receptionist or greeting area if needed.

2. Where will your office be located?

3. Will you need work stations?

4. What about the meeting rooms? How many will you have (go back to your business plan and look at how many employees you will have).

5. If you are planning to work out of your home then you will need to show how the space will be laid out also. Where will your trucks/cars be parked? Where will the parents drop their kids off?

6. Bathrooms.
