Alone With God

Alone With God

Early the next morning while it was still dark, Jesus woke and left the house.

He went to a lonely place, where He prayed. Mark 1:35

After leaving them, He went up on a mountainside to pray. Mark 6:46

As the deer pants for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.

I thirst for God, for the living God. Psalm 42:1,2a

Purposefully, take a few moments to quiet your mind and heart so you can focus on what God wants you to learn. You are entering into a quiet time with the One who created you and loves you more than you can imagine. He wants to have a close relationship with you. And here is a wonderful opportunity to build that. He wants some time alone with you. Shhhhh ... He has wooed you to this time because He wanted to slow you down long enough to listen.

We are told in Genesis 32:24 of Jacob who was left alone. "Left alone!” What different emotions these words bring to mind for each of us! To some they mean loneliness and grief, but to others they may mean rest and quiet. To be left alone without God would be too horrible for words, while being left alone with Him is a taste of heaven! And if His followers spent more time alone with Him, we would have spiritual giants again.

Our Master set an example for us. Remember how often He went to be alone with God? And there was a powerful purpose behind His command, When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray' (Matthew 6:6)"

A. Connecting With the One Who Loves You

"The greatest miracles of Elijah and Elisha and many others took place when they were alone with God." Read the following passages. Write a short summary so you can remember what you read. Then write what happened when each of these men were alone with God.

1-Moses (Exodus 3:1-6)

2-Joshua (Joshua 1:1-9, focus verse 1)

3- Gideon (Judges 6: 1-25, focus verse 11)

4- Jacob (Genesis 32:22-32, focus verse 28)

Cornelius (Acts 10:1-8)

Peter (Acts 10:9-28)

John the Baptist (Luke 1:80)

John the disciple of Jesus (Revelation 1:1-11, focus verse 9)

"Earnestly desire to get alone with God. If we neglect to do so, we not only rob ourselves of a blessing but rob others as well, since we will have no blessing to pass on to them. It may mean we do less outward, visible work, but the work we do will have more depth and power. Another wonderful result will be that people will see Jesus in us and in our lives.

The impact of being alone with God in prayer and study cannot be overemphasized.

B. Making the Connection Count

1 - When will you make the time daily to spend alone with the Lord?

Time of day__________________________

2-What was most meaningful of what you read or studied? Write a prayer about this and what the Lord is prompting you to do as a result of this study.
