Role title: Research AssistantReports to: Senior Research FellowJob purpose: To undertake research, positively promote research awareness and facilitate research into counselling and psychotherapy; to undertake research projects and administration in line with departmental strategy.Financial: n/aStaff: n/aOther: n/aPrincipal accountabilities:Identify, appraise and disseminate information on counselling research to BACP members, contributing to the development of a range of member engagement materials and activities to support practice and improve standards. Contribute to the development of research projects, undertaking specific assigned projects associated with these projects to support the delivery of departmental strategy.Support the Senior Research Fellows in developing, delivering and evaluating the Advancing Practice through Tracking (AdaPT) and Student Counselling Research and Evaluation (SCORE) consortium projects to support practice-based research in line with departmental strategy.Support the Research Fellow by contributing to the methodological oversight function of the team by developing, building and testing surveys, analysing data and reporting findings, to ensure that work across the organisation is informed by rigorous methods and supported by evidence.Contribute, as part of the wider team, to the administration of the department, including the research conference, to ensure smooth fulfilment and completion of tasks.Carrying out quantitative and qualitative data analysis of primary and secondary datasets, using Excel, SPSS and/or NVivo. Carrying out desktop research, using a range of methods and sources of data, related to counselling and psychotherapy researchContributing to the development of the department’s research prioritisation process, by assisting with consultation exercises to elicit feedback from members and academic stakeholders.BACP Principal accountability To be a BACP ambassador by upholding and demonstrating our values at every opportunity, through verbal, written and face to face communication. Context:Operating environment: The department currently engages in a wide range of both internal facing and external facing activity, although it should be noted that these are linked – our internal activity influences external activity and vice versa. Broadly, the purpose of the internal facing activity is to provide research expertise to other BACP departments. The external facing activity of the department involves a wide range of work aimed at ensuring that members and practitioners have access to high-quality research relevant to practice and to services that support their own research. The department also works with a number of leading academic partners on large-scale projects in line with BACP’s anisation: See organisation chartRelationships:Direct reports: n/aManager: Monthly one-to-one meetings; regular informal catch up on an ad hoc basis both in person and by phone/email; team meetings, usually monthly; team strategy away days at least three times per year.Other contacts: n/aKnowledge and experience:Educated to degree level and in a relevant social sciences subjectAbility to research, analyse and summarise information, statistical data and complex issues into a clear, concise, accurate and accessible form.Excellent communication skills including effective and clear verbal communication and written communicationAn enthusiasm for research with the ability to communicate research effectively to researchers and non-researchers alike.Excellent planning and organisational skills, demonstrating and ability to work on own initiative, to organise and prioritise own work adhering to agreed deadlines.PC literate demonstrating extensive experience of Word, Excel, Outlook, designing and managing databases, and searching and using the world wide web.An understanding of counselling and psychotherapy research.Job challenge: Managing competing demands from a diverse workload, including prioritising ongoing and reactive tasks. ................
