World War II Research Project

USII.7a-c

During the World War II unit, students will be researching and writing about different parts of the war. First, students will create a research portfolio, which is this packet. Second, students will use the research portfolio to create a compilation of six (6) articles (with pictures or graphics) on the different parts/aspects of the war.

• In and outside of history class, students will focus on gathering and processing information and images from primary and secondary sources to provide the research for the portfolio.

• Next, students will combine parts of their portfolio together to create a compilation of six (6) articles which will be typed and handed in a final product. A picture or graphic must be included with each article. Citations for each article and picture or graphic will be included in a works cited page at the end of the final product.

Read the following directions for your research carefully!

• You must have at least one primary source, which is a firsthand or eyewitness account or piece of evidence from someone who actually lived through the historical event. Useful primary sources might include interviews from books, magazines or electronic database, as well as an interview that you yourself conduct with a family member, family friend, or someone else you know who experienced the war firsthand.

• You must have at least three secondary sources for your information.

o These secondary sources include books (books have been reserved for you in the Stone Hill Library) and databases

o Use the handout with Stone Hill library databases to gain usernames and passwords

• You will have to cite all sources in MLA format. These sources will be listed in a works cited page at the end of the final product. This page will include citations for all research and pictures or graphics.

• A cover page, with an appropriate picture depicting World War II, will be required.
