Light of Christ

L In the name of the Father, and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen

L God of Heaven and Earth, You care for us as a people and as Your children.

We speak with the psalmist who writes:

C The Lord “heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

L He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.

C Great is our Lord, and abundant in power

his understanding is beyond measure.

L Indeed, Almighty Lord, You are great and great things You have done.

(Let us observe a moment of silence for reflection and self-examination.)

L Most merciful God,

C we confess before You and before our brothers and sisters that we have sinned in thought word and deed by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen

L Almighty God, in his mercy, has given his Son to die for us and, for his sake, forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to us the entire forgiveness of all our sins, in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen

Children’s Message

The Sermon

*Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

and born of the virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven, and is seated

at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Prayer and Words of Institution

*The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us;

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

Together we partake in the Sacrament of Holy Communion

FIRST LESSON: Isaiah 40:21-31

21Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in; 23who brings princes to naught, and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing. 24Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when he blows upon them, and they wither, and the tempest carries them off like stubble. 25To whom then will you compare me, or who is my equal? says the Holy One. 26Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these? He who brings out their host and numbers them, calling them all by name; because he is great in strength, mighty in power, not one is missing. 27Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”? 28Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. 30Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; 31but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Mark 1:29-39

29As soon as the disciples left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her at once. 31He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. 33And the whole city was gathered around the door. 34And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. 35In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. 36And Simon and his companions hunted for him. 37When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.” 38He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.” 39And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and casting out demons.

Awake, Awake, and Greet the New Morn

1 Awake! Awake, and greet the new morn, for angels herald its dawning.

Sing out your joy, for soon he is born, behold! the Child of our longing.

Come as a baby weak and poor, to bring all hearts together,

he opens wide the heav'nly door and lives now inside us forever.

2 To us, to all in sorrow and fear, Emmanuel comes a singing.

His humble song is quiet and near, Yet fills the earth with its ringing;

Music to heal the broken soul and hymns of loving kindness,

The thunder of his anthems roll To shatter all hatred and blindness.

4 Rejoice, rejoice, take heart in the night,

Though dark the winter and cheerless,

The rising sun shall crown you with light, Be strong and loving and fearless.

Love be our song and love our prayer And love our endless story;

May God fill every day we share And bring us at last into glory.

To God Be the Glory

1 To God be the glory, great things he has done;

so loved he the world that he gave us his Son,

who yielded his life an atonement for sin,

and opened the life gate that all may go in.

Refrain

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice!

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!

Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,

and give him the glory, great things he has done.

2 Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,

to ev'ry believer the promise of God;

the vilest offender by grace may believe,

that moment from Jesus a pardon receive. (Refrain)

3 Great things he has taught us,

great things he has done,

and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;

but purer, and higher, and greater will be

our wonder, our vict'ry, when Jesus we see. (Refrain)

“It is Good to be in the House of the Lord”

We welcome all this morning to gather as faithful disciples in Christ on the campus of Mount Zion. We have been praying how best to serve God and serve all who desire to hear the Word of the Lord. We offer three venues hoping that you are comfortable in hearing, sharing and being in God’s Word this morning.

You have the option of staying in your car, tuning your radio to 95.9 FM and enjoy the fellowship of others who remain in their car. For best reception, we suggest finding a spot on the east portion of the parking lot. There will be an offering collected during the special music.

We also have patio worship at our 10:30 service. There are tables and chairs set along with a large screen TV which will live stream the service which is taking place inside the sanctuary. The tables and chairs are set up with physical distancing in mind.

We also offer indoor worship. The chairs will be set in pods and we encourage you to move chairs to physically distance for optimal health concerns and a sense of comfort for those who desire to be indoors. We desire that all who are inside to wear a mask. If you do not have one, or forgot yours, one is available for you. The doors will remain open and we will keep a continuous flow of are circulating. There will be a collection box for your offering stationed in the back of the sanctuary. We ask that you place your offering in the box before or after the service.

The Communion offered will be the same for all locations. You will receive a prefilled Communion cup/host and together we will commune as One Body.

We want to thank all of you who have remained faithful and helpful to sharing the Good News through the ministries of Mount Zion during this time. We are committed to being flexible and adaptable during this Covid era and we really do want to hear from you. Nothing is written in stone and how best to serve God and those who are called to give thanks and praise to the Lord in a safe and pleasing way is our main concern. If you have any insights or concerns, please share them with us.

We offer two worship services which are at 8:00am and 10:30am. It was decided that the 10:30am service be the service to Zoom live. We will also return to having an adult forum at 9:15 which will also be offered on Zoom.

Adult Forum discussing the Mission Spending Plan.

The Adult Forum this morning will be in the sanctuary. We will present and discuss the Mission Spending Plan for Mount Zion’s ministries for the year of 2021, How much will it cost us/you to continue to provide ministry and hope to Mount Zion and the community around us? Please take the time to hear how you can help make it all happen.

Bible Study resumes this Thursday at 10:00. We are studying the book of Revelation. The can link to our Bible Study on Zoom from our homepage:

Annual Congregational Meeting

As per our constitution, we are required to have an Annual Congregational Meeting. The synod has provided the instruction and opportunity to do this online. We are not having our meeting online. We gather to elect new council members, affirm our Synod Assembly delegates and approve a Mission Spending Plan for the year 2021.
