CAMP AIM 2020: Summer Fun Work!!!Camp AIM is a YMCA-sponsored summer day camp that serves children with special needs in the Pittsburgh area. The six-week summer camp runs from June 15-July 24, 2020 at Carnegie Elementary School which is part of the Carlynton School District. The day-to-day hours of camp are Monday through Friday 9:00 am-2:00 pm. There are also two mandatory training days on Saturday, June 5, 2020 and Saturday, June 13, 2020. Camp AIM is divided into three main categories of exceptionalities:Learning Support/Life Skills Support/Autistic Support: Our largest population encompassing the broadest range of exceptionalities. Provides services for campers with learning disabilities, autism, visual and/or hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities, and speech impairments, among others. Emotional Support: Provides supports and services for students with mental health, behavioral, and/or emotional diagnoses. Physical Support: Includes campers with a multitude of physical disabilities. Many campers in this group utilize various forms of technology to assist with movement, daily activities, and communication. Camp AIM offers some of the structure and services of a typical school day:An on-site nurse to dispense medications and provide health services.“Specials,” including Art, Home Ec., Music, Adapted Phys Ed, Life Skills For Living/Home Ec., and SwimmingESY (Extended School Year) – campers working towards maintaining goals in their current IEP Daily lunch time as a group enjoying the packed lunches from home as well as Camp provided snacks. Camp AIM also includes special events and trips such as a camp-wide talent show, Olympic games, celebration of art, theme days, a zoo trip, and Prom! Expectations and responsibilities as a counselor include: Arrive to camp on time daily. Supervise a group of 3-5 campers.Provide a safe and nurturing environment for your campers.
