Welcome!

Whether it's your first visit or a return trip, we welcome you to Faneuil Hall Marketplace.

The Marketplace means so much to so many guests. For the traveler, it's their first stop when visiting Boston to view this historic landmark. For others, it's the place they frequented during their college years and have recently rediscovered. And for locals, it's a regular destination for shopping, dining and fun. Whatever your reason, we are glad that you're here.

Now more than ever, it is important to support local businesses. Faneuil Hall Marketplace is made up of over one hundred locally-owned shops, restaurants and pushcarts. Please support these local merchants who are here to serve you. In addition, well-known national brands offer opportunities where you can browse merchandise first-hand without having to search the Internet.

It's all about the experience. And there is no better place than Faneuil Hall Marketplace to shop, eat and soak up the rich history here in the center of Boston.

Rich In History

Immerse yourself in history as soon as

you step onto the cobblestone walkway

that surrounds Faneuil Hall Marketplace.

Adjacent to the marketplace is Historic

Faneuil Hall, gifted to the city in 1742 by

wealthy merchant Peter Faneuil to be used

as a food market for the city's growing

population. The Great Hall was added

on almost as an afterthought, but it has

become the most historically significant

spot at Faneuil Hall. The Great Hall has

hosted impassioned orators including the

firebrand Samuel Adams who rallied the

citizens of Boston to fight for independence

from Great Britain, President George

Washington and women's suffragette

activist Susan B. Anthony. The Great Hall

is also where John F. Kennedy gave his

last televised campaign speech during

his presidential campaign in 1960. The

National Park Service oversees historic

Faneuil Hall and offers free daily ranger-

guided talks every half hour from 9:30am

? 4:30pm in the Great Hall unless it is

reserved for a city-sponsored event.

hemisphere granted in 1638 by the Great and General Court of Massachusetts Bay and signed by Governor John Winthrop. Its mission was to prepare its members to serve as officers in the enrolled militia companies. In the museum you will see artifacts such as firearms, swords, paintings, and medals that reflect the role that Boston played in a variety of military affairs since the 1700s. Admission to the museum is free and is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9am-3:30pm.

More colonial Boston history is just steps outside the Dock Square entrance of historic Faneuil Hall where Samuel Adams Park is located and features a commanding statue of Adams, one of the Sons of Liberty who was instrumental in the Revolutionary War. A new tap room bearing his name is now open adjacent to the park serving craft beer made on the premises by the Boston-based company Samuel Adams that was established in 1987. The Samuel Adams Tap Room opened in January 2020 and features Samuel Adams craft beers and special tasting menus throughout the week. When you are visiting Faneuil Hall Marketplace, stop by and toast the America's Revolutionary War Hero with his namesake beer.

Continue your history journey at Quincy Market where historic walking tours are held every week with guide Linda

Perlman. Discover the behind-the-scenes stories about how Quincy Market was built. Find out what the city of Boston was like when it opened in 1826, the proud accomplishment of Mayor Josiah Quincy who had it built without any tax or debt. For more information visit .

How Push Carts Began

WAGS AND WHISKERS LIQUOR WICKSTM

Can you spot the image of the bull on

the weathervane atop the dome on Quincy Market? That was the inspiration for the name "Bull Market" that describes the 35 push carts full of unique gift items and artisan wares at Faneuil Hall Marketplace.

When the Marketplace was renovated and reopened to the public in 1976, there were empty spaces on either side of Quincy Market. To fill those spaces, the developer sought local craftspeople to sell their goods from wooden carts that resembled those used since the mid 1800's by the Haymarket food peddlers next door. Faneuil Hall Marketplace is where the push cart phenomenon was born and subsequently replicated across the country, now a $12 billion industry.

The push carts are all locally owned and operated and offer everything to dress you from head to toe. You'll find socks, undergarments, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats and jewelry to dazzle up your outfit. The push carts have a wide selection of Boston-themed clothing for all ages from infants to adults. Gifts from around the world can also be found at the Bull Market, including Russian dolls, Turkish good luck charms and keepsakes from Ireland and Asia.

There is even a new push cart for your pets, Wags and Whiskers, where you'll find cat and dog accessories such as treats, clothing, leashes and toys. Wags and Whiskers Owner Lisa Mulcahy says Faneuil Hall Marketplace is the perfect spot for her push cart. "Wags and Whiskers is one of the best decisions I
