#3 HR in Business Workshops

Good Morning,

One of the most important things for employers and managers these days is developing our staff, retaining our employees, and understanding their needs and our responsibilities. Our sales depend on it!

We have all experienced the need to hire staff, to deal with retention, and to train our team so we can offer great service and develop sales. It is a skill to know how to hire the right person. In the 2016 labour market we have to learn what our employees expect - what is important to a multi-generational, multi-cultural workforce? We also have to know our responsibilities as managers, leaders and employers.

The Whitehorse Chamber has been working with Lee Vincent, an HR expert and the local representative of the HRMA of BC/Yukon, to create a series of workshops to help us understand the role of HR in business. Sometimes we think that HR is just common sense, but it is not, and we can get caught with high turnover and other labour issues.

Please find attached the description of a 6-part workshop that starts September 28th. The workshops will be held from 8am to 9:30am on Wednesdays and will take place at the Westmark Whitehorse.

We are also pleased to announce that because of funding from the Yukon Government, Department of Economic Development, and CanNor we are able to offer these workshops for $100.00. We have a limited number of seats so if you want to learn about proper HR policies and procedures reply to this e-mail as soon as you can.

#4 ATTA - Reveals Global and Regional Trends: Safety Indicators for Countries Around the World Remain High

The 2016 Adventure Tourism Development Index (ATDI) is now available to the industry in time for the 2016 Adventure Travel World Summit in Anchorage, Alaska, September 19-22. The ATDI is an annual ranking from the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA, ) and The George Washington University (GWU) that assesses adventure tourism competitiveness of countries around the globe. This year’s ATDI report reveals that worldwide safety indicators remain high despite a tumultuous global environment.

#6 Yukon TIPP Line Reminder

Did you know the TIPP line is used for pollution as well as hunting violations? Dumping waste, destroying habitat, and polluting the air are all activities that should be reported to the TIPP line.  With many eyes on the land, we can help hold polluters accountable for damaging our shared environment. Call 1-800-661-0525 or offer your report online.
