2017 Empire Farm Days Winners Announced

Seneca Falls, NY. Empire Farm Days has announced the winners of the 2017 competitions and prize drawings held at Rodman Lott and Son Farms, 2973 State Route 414, Seneca Falls, NY.

Castile, NY, Dairy Farmer Wins Kubota RTV400

Valerie Pankow of Pankow Dairy Farms in Castile, NY, in Wyoming County, won the 2017 Empire Farm Days drawing for a Kubota RTV400. She and her husband David have a herd of 650 cows on approximately 1400 acres. Valerie says the family has a larger RTV they use to moves calves and do farm chores, so, “The Empire Farm Days RTV will be a luxury for me to use for gardening.” Jokingly, she says she may paint her name on it in pink so it does not get hijacked for farmwork.

The Pankows have attended Empire Farm Days every year since they married 31 years ago. Valerie says, “We like to try new things to keep on the cutting edge as much as we can financially afford. There is nowhere better than Empire Farm Days to talk with vendors and see the newest technologies for farming.”

The Kubota RTV 400 prize is sponsored by Kubota, Empire Farm Days, and Lamb and Webster equipment dealers.

2017 EFD Scholarship Winner From Rushville

Karen Luong of Rushville, NY, is the 2017 Empire State Potato Growers Scholarship recipient of a $500 scholarship per academic year for up to four consecutive years of agricultural education at a college in New York State. She was recognized at the Ag Leadership Luncheon at the 2017 Empire Farm Days. A Marcus Whitman High School graduate, Karen already has an Associates of Applied Science degree in Horticulture from Finger Lakes Community College. She is now pursuing a plant science degree with a concentration in plant pathology at Cornell University.

Pioneer STUDENTS Win 2017 State FFA/4-H Tractor Safety Contest

Coordinator Jon Clayson of Pioneer Central School has announced the 2017 winners of the Empire Farm Days New York State FFA Tractor Safety Contest. They are:

. Senior Division for 16-18 year olds: Logan Williams, Pioneer Central School

. Junior Division for 14-16 year olds: Patrick Fontaine, Pioneer Central School

. 4-H Division: Tanner Hutter, Yates County.

The contest sponsors included Case International, John Deere, Kubota, H&S Farm Equipment, New Holland, the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health, Java Farm Supply, Lamb and Webster, and the New York FFA Foundation.

2017 NY State FFA Welding Contest Honors Go to Randolph Central Student

Contest organizers Johanna Fox-Bossard, Hamilton Central School agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, and Morrisville State College Professor Fred Bach have announced the winners of the 2017 New York State FFA Welding competition for students in grades 9-12 held at Empire Farm Days. The top three 2016 NYS FFA Welding Contest individual winners, receiving Morrisville State College scholarships, are:

. Noah Persson, Randolph Central School

. Justin Rodda, Otselic Valley Central School

. Allan Jones, Cuba Rushford Central School.

. High Team: Allan Jones and Dakota Witter of Cuba Rushford Central School.

Haun Welding, Briggs and Stratton Power Products of Munnsville, and Morrisville State College sponsored the 2017 New York State FFA Welding competition.

Perry, NY, Dairy: 2017 Agricultural Environmental Management Award Winner

Dueppengiesser Dairy Farm located in Perry, NY, in Wyoming County, received the 2017 Agricultural Environmental Management Award from NYS Agriculture Commissioner Richard Ball at the 2017 Empire Farm Days Leader Luncheon. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Empire State Potato Growers, and American Agriculturist magazine sponsor the award recognizing farm-based conservation management best practices.

The 2018 Empire Farm Days event, the largest outdoor agricultural trade event in the Northeastern U.S., will be held in Seneca Falls, NY, on August 7, 8 and 9, 2018. Watch for details.
