RESUME PREPARATION WORKSHEET

Questions to ask yourself before you start writing your resume:

1) List all of the things you would like to include on your resume including work experience, volunteer experience, clubs, sports, interests, activities, awards or honors received, language skills, computer skills, etc.

2) List 10 qualities that you have that you think a potential employer or a school might want to know about you. (I.e. Organized, dedicated, etc.)

3) How well do the items you listed for the first question, correspond to the qualities you listed for question 2? For example, a long-term commitment to a job or volunteer site shows dedication and responsibility. A job at a local park or recycling center shows an interest in the environment. Match up each quality with something you have done.

4) Do you have qualities that you consider to be important about yourself that are not demonstrated through your experience? What activities could you pursue to add to your resume that would further demonstrate these qualities?

5) For each item you plan to include on your resume, write a list of bullets describing your responsibilities. I.e. A Tutor could say: - Coached elementary school student in math and reading skills. (Use the back of this sheet.)
