|ROLE PURPOSE: |

|Save the Children launched its ambitious 2016 – 2018 strategic plan with the aim of significantly increasing unrestricted funds. Engaging, |

|inspiring and retaining our supporters and increasing their value over time has been identified as key to our unrestricted income growth. We|

|now want to appoint an experienced international leader for individual giving to join the team and drive this growth at a strategic level |

|working in collaboration with heads of individual giving in Members fundraising teams. |

| |

|The Global Fundraising Hub was created at Save the Children International in 2016 and is a virtual team of 10-12 experienced international |

|fundraisers. The new Hub sits in the Member Growth team, headquartered in London, and provides strategic support and technical guidance to |

|our Members in Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America. A number of the team members work remotely and the location of this job is |

|flexible. The role will involve travel to work with national leaders in individual giving. It will also manage the specialists in the Global |

|Fundraising Hub on F2F, DRTV, digital fundraising, donor development and work collaboratively cross the team on fundraising data and |

|insights. |

| |

|Reporting to the International Donor Development Manager, the purpose of this role is to support them to develop, drive and promote best |

|practice in supporter retention and development and to optimize the value from individual donors across the Save the Children movement to |

|increase long-term unrestricted income. |

| |

|The International Donor Development Specialist will: |

|Support the ongoing development of a strong network across Members to drive a significant increase in sustainable unrestricted income through|

|improvements in donor value optimization including retention |

|Help identify the critical insights and the best practice examples that maximize opportunities to increase the value over a supporter’s |

|lifetime |

|Collaborate effectively with SCI acquisition specialists (F2F, DRTV & Digital) to ensure that effective retention strategies are developed, |

|embedded and integrated across our acquisition channels. |

| |

|In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to |

|vary work hours accordingly. |

|SCOPE OF ROLE: |

| |

|Reports to: Head of International Fundraising Specialists |

|Number of direct reports: None |

|Budget Responsibilities: Indirectly responsible for meeting retention and development expenditure and income goals in assigned countries, in |

|line with agreed international growth targets. |

|KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: |

| |

|Direct Support: Support new and existing fundraising markets as and when required. |

|Work in collaboration with specialist acquisition colleagues in the Global Fundraising Hub at SCI and fundraising teams in key Members, Donor|

|Retention and Development Leads and Regional Heads of Market Development to support the development of strategies to retain and maximise the |

|value from supporters to Save the Children with a priority on driving unrestricted income. This support involves co-ordinating the |

|implementation of best practice fundraising in the following areas of donor development and retention: |

|Year one donor retention plans that focus on the first three months and up to month 12 |

|Conversion of one-off donors to regular donors |

|Content and communications strategies that help Members deliver supporter journeys that engage and inspire our supporters |

|Best practice in emergency fundraising to maximize donor value |

|Win back and reactivation strategies |

|Upgrading supporters through excellent telemarketing practices and channel integration |

|Integration of house appeals covering mail, telephone and digital channels |

|Segmentation strategies to maximize donor value |

|Supporter care best practices Global Mid-level donor programme |

|Tracking and monitoring of key donor development KPIs e.g. retention rate, LTV, revenue per donor |

|Support the International Donor Development Manager and SC Members with the roll out of the new Global Mid-level donor programme |

|Accountable for tracking the rollout of the Global Mid-level donor programme and monitoring impact |

|Co-ordination of shared assets and content specifically developed for the segment |

|Responsible for ensuring the product is launched and developed in a consistent manner by Members |

|Be accountable for the development and ongoing management of the global shopping list project. This includes: |

|Building a list of tangible and accurate price points that reflect our work with children that is funded by individual donors, covering gift |

|values ranging from $1-$10,000 |

|Ensure the price points cover the breadth of our work with children (thematically and geographically, including humanitarian) |

|Coordinating with Regional Communications Managers to validate existing price points on a regular basis and to expand them |

|Coordinating with Members to ensure consistency in the use and application of price points |

|Ensure timely review points are developed to maintain the accuracy of the price points at all times |

| |

|Skill Sharing: Assist in maintaining and creating effective links and greater dialogue between retention and development fundraisers across |

|the Save the Children Network |

|Support in the organisation and facilitation of regional retention and development skill-sharing initiatives |

|Support in the organisation and facilitation of the donor development track within the Global Save the Children Fundraising Forum |

|Organise the monthly donor development practitioners calls – confirm speakers, review content and facilitate all follow up activities |

|Deputise for the International Donor Development Manager during monthly donor development practitioner calls, as required |

|Alongside the International Donor Development Manager, is responsible for identifying successful initiatives or innovations that have the |

|potential to be successfully scaled in other markets |

|Works closely with the Global Creative Content Unit to ensure the global content packages contain themes, assets and information that aid in |

|the retention and development of existing donors |

| |

|Knowledge Management & Best Practice: Provide a central point for best practice, knowledge management and sharing to improve the expertise |

|and quality of retention and development fundraising across Save the Children. |

|Responsible for the development and rollout of the SC donor development best practice model |

|Ensure all Members are aware of the latest donor development best practices and how to access them |

|Advise Members in the implementation of best practice |

|Track the implementation of best practices amongst Members including any testing |

|Keep abreast of emerging or new best practices across the network |

|Responsible for keeping up to date the knowledge sharing platform on the international intranet |

|Optimised retention assets can be shared (welcome journeys, telemarketing scripts, content, product development strategies etc) |

|All Members know that these materials exist and know how to access them |

|Assist in the creation of a series of donor development best practice toolkits for use by all Members. e.g Upgrade, reactivation, conversion |

| |

|External focus: Ensure that Save the Children is staying abreast of retention and development initiatives. |

|Co-responsibly for staying abreast of the sector developments and innovations from other not for profits by initiating a ‘mystery shopping’ |

|project to track how supporter journeys are promoting retention and development and feed the results back at skill shares |

|Responsible also for keeping up to date with relevant trends in the commercial and non-for-profit sector and harness this to inspire Save the|

|Children’s retention and development fundraising programmes. |

|QUALIFICATIONS |

|University degree or other relevant professional qualification or experience |

|Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Institute of Fundraising (IoF) or Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) qualifications or overseas |

|equivalent would be an advantage. |

|EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS |

|Experience in executing strategies for effective donor development and retention |

|Proven experience delivering supporter retention and development activities with a demonstrable record of success in reducing attrition and |

|growing value. Experience in doing this in multiple markets is an advantage or at the global level in an international team. |

|Experience developing and implementing supporter journeys across multiple channels |

|Excellent skills across mail, telephone and digital essential |

|Capacity to build and maintain excellent relations and to work effectively in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment respecting |

|diversity |

|Strong personal organisational and self-management skills with an ability to motivate others |

|Ability to think critically, objectively, analytically and strategically, solve problems quickly and show initiative |
