Program Competencies

1. Describe the psychological and sociological aspects of clothing. (TEC105)

2. Identify cultural factors, technological developments, interests, values, and aesthetic concepts that affect clothing choices. (TEC105)

3. Identify items of apparel, fibers and fabrics, colors, hair styles, headdresses, and accessories unique to each period of historic costume. (TEC106)

4. Interpret pattern directions and guide sheets accurately. (TEC111)

5. Select fashion fabric, lining, interfacing, patterns, and notions appropriate for constructing specific garments. (TEC111)

6. Operate the sewing machine efficiently and use pressing equipment and sewing tools appropriately when constructing apparel. (TEC111)

7. Design and evaluate ready-to-wear apparel using the principles and elements of design. (TEC125)

8. List steps of apparel design and relate to manufacturing and production. (TEC125)

9. Develop a portfolio for computer-assisted apparel designs using industry software and the elements and principles of design. (TEC127)

10. Render the fashion figure, beauty heads, and various fabrics in garments and accessories. (TEC134)

11. Exhibit a rudimentary knowledge of fashion layout, advertising, and the media used in fashion illustration. (TEC134)

12. Draw fashion figures and sketch garments on figures using drawing pencil, charcoal, ink wash, watercolor, pastels, felt tip/marker pens, colored pencils, and acrylics to experiment with different techniques used in fashion illustration. (TEC134)
