My Mind Session 1 plan: Introduction to My Mind Session1 of 12LORIC Links Students to identify links between Health & Wellbeing and LORIC principles. Highlight that for this part of the course we are focusing on the 'My Mind' strand and particularly working through the 'Mindset' topics.Slide 5: Introduce students to the focus of today's session which is an introduction to the strand of 'My Mind'. Students will understand what affects their minds and consider some essential daily activities which contribute to having a healthy mind. Slide 6: Read out the quote about the mind and ask students two key questions. 1. Can they think of a time when they were sad, stressed or unhappy – what were their minds telling them? 2. Can they think of a time that they felt great & excited – what was their mind telling them?Initiate discussion and feedback from the class about what their minds were telling them in two different situations.Slide 7: Read through this slide highlighting the importance of our minds.Slide 8 & 9: In small groups ask students to discuss what we mean by 'mindset'. Gain feedback from each group and then show the definitions. Talk through slide 9 and mention how thoughts, beliefs, feelings and actions are all linked. Slides 10 – 12: In small groups ask students to write down all the things that happen on a daily basis that can affect or influence their mindset. Gain feedback from different groups and get them to circle the ones that have a positive impact on their minds. Talk through slide 12.Slides 13 – 17: Introduce the healthy mind platter to students and talk through slides 13 - 16. Highlight the 7 daily essential activities which are necessary for a healthy mind and optimal mental health. Using Worksheet A students can work out how much time they spend on an average day on each of the 7 daily activities. They can share these with a partner and work out areas they need to improve on. Slide 18: Students can pick 3 actions which they are going to work on improving to support with their healthy mind platter.Slide 19: Recap the session, the importance of our minds and read the quotes.Slide 20: Students look at the LORIC principles and discuss why each one is important or contributes to keeping a positive mind. Some examples are displayed on the slide.
