It’s Time For God To Do Something!

Psalm 119:125 - 128

Psalm 119:125 - 128

125 I am Your servant; Give me understanding, That I may know Your testimonies.

126 It is time for You to act [work in KJV], O Lord, For they have regarded Your law as void.

127 Therefore I love Your commandments More than gold, yes, than fine gold!

128 Therefore all Your precepts concerning all things I consider to be right; I hate every false way.

Introduction:

• David was not trying to tell God what to do. God’s actions and work is His business!

• David was only recognizing that with the situation of the world known to him, it was time for God to do something.

• Wouldn’t you agree that “It is time for God to act [work] today?

• Look at our world today! It’s really scary!

• War in the Middle East – Iraq, Afghanistan, Libia, etc! - NEXT?

• 10 Years ago today the 9-11 attack on the United States!

1. World Conditions Are Hopeless Unless God Intervenes.

A. Our world seems to be getting worse not better.

• Yes, we have better ‘things’ but a worse world in which to use them!

• Yes, we have more technology but what ultimate good is it doing us?

• Yes, we have more education but what are we learning?

• Yes, we have more wealth but what are we buying?

• Yes, we have more conveniences but we are more selfish with them!

B. Man has made a mess of things!

C. Only God can bring sense to this chaotic world!

2. The World Has Made Void God’s Laws!

A. David’s view…..

Psalm 119:126 It is time for You to act [work in KJV], O Lord, For they have regarded Your law as void.

B. The Apostle Paul speaks of lawlessness to the church at

Thessalonica:

2 Thessalonians 2:7 - 10

7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.

8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

9The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,

10and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

C. There is a breakdown of God’s law of authority everywhere…

1. For the home, someone recently said, “There is as much

authority in the home today as ever – the children have it!”

2. Marriage has become a temporary arrangement instead of a

permanent partnership!

3. The officer of the law is a joke to many who are intentionally

trying to break the laws of society.

4. Anarchy [rebellion, chaos, disorder] is evident all around us…

a) Modern Art – What is it? - You can’t tell whether it is a

sunset or scrambled eggs!

Page 3

Illustration: I heard about one piece of art that was hung upside down by mistake in a recent exhibit and it won 1st prize!

b) Rebellious and disrespectful youth and adults…

[pic]

Illustration: Students at school?

Illustration: Adult man in check out line at the grocery store! - Disagreed with the price, swore at teller, and left the whole order on the checkout counter and stormed out!

[pic]

D. Society as a whole has disregarded God’s laws!

3. The Church And Christians Have Disregarded God’s

Laws!

A. Authority has vanished from the pulpit.

1) From my position I can see a sign on the faces of may like that

of a hotel room door = “Please Do Not Disturb!”

2) A message like this one is considered a waste of time by many.

• Many do not want to hear about sin and rebelliousness…

• They cry, “Let’s hear some DEEP teaching.”

• Deep teaching is useless unless we are faithful, dedicated, and committed to God’s laws.

• It’s like taking medicine without dealing with the symptoms!--- Grab some aspirin when one has an ulcer!

Page 4

3) For many there is no respect for the man of God or his message

from God.

B. For many pastors the message of Christ and God’s laws has been

replaced with inspiring teachings, financial planning, motivational

topics, politics, and social programs…

[pic]

Illustration: Vance Havner said, “Many Church leaders and attenders are running around in their spiritual sleep, knocking things over, and calling it ‘Kingdom work.’ Human busyness has replaced the Father’s business.”

Illustration: A Local church leader in Tampa allowed a political figure who owns several ‘strip clubs’ and denies the existence of God to stand in the pulpit!

[pic]

C. Many churches have made void God’s laws concerning the Holy

Spirit.

1) Some have denied the reality of the virgin birth of Christ and

the sacrifice of the blood of Jesus to redeem us from our sins.

2) Many have totally denied the work and person of the Holy

Spirit.

3) Others have gone so far that they are looking for and expecting

more than God has provided through Pentecost.

D. Most ‘Christians’ are trying to make God’s laws fit their program

And desires rather than simply studying and obeying God’s Divine

Laws!

I Agree with the Psalmist David…….

It’s Time For God To Do Something!

4. God Must First “Do Something” In Us!

A. In our text, David speaks of honoring and obeying God’s Laws:

Psalm 119:127 & 128

127 Therefore I love Your commandments More than gold, yes, than fine gold!

128 Therefore all Your precepts concerning all things I consider to be right; I hate every false way.

[pic]

B. It’s Time For God To Work In US!

David continues in Psalm 119….

Psalm 119:125 I am Your servant; Give me understanding, That I may know Your testimonies.

1) We can’t change the church at large – but we can change this church!

2) I can’t change the world – but I can change me!

Conclusion…..God Is Working ------ He is telling the world to get ready!

Mark 13:7 & 8 (NKJV)

7But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet.

8For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows.

Luke 21:25 – 28 (NKJV)

25“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring;

26men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

27Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

28Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
