Ancient Egypt Project DirectionsFor the ancient Egypt unit, you will be choosing four activities that interest you. You will be learning about life in ancient Egypt as you complete your chosen activity. You can use the resources provided by your teacher as well as referencing the social studies book to help you complete your work. REQUIREMENTS: ● ?You must complete FOUR activities. ?● ? TEACHER COMMENTS: ______________/ 5 ANCIENT EGYPT INDEPENDENT PROJECT SELECTIONS 1. Perform A Play: Directions : You and several peers perform one of the plays that I have set aside for you. There is one play about Hatshepsut, another about field trip to a tomb, and another about the story of Isis and Osiris. Please see your teacher for a copy of the script. You should use costumes and props. See Teacher for your script. Create a group and assign roles for each part. If a role is very short, one person can have multiple roles. First, memorize your lines, then create your own props/costumes.Next practice as a group and create additional scenery/props as a group. If choosing this project, you should work on this LAST and complete your individual assignments first!!!!2. Create a model of ancient Egyptian Architecture Directions : Create a model of an ancient Egyptian structure such as the The Great Pyramid of Giza, The Sphinx, Abu Simbel, or the Valley of the Kings. Models should be no smaller than 12” x 12”. Write a 1-2 page paper about the importance of this building and its history. Plan ahead and bring in all materials from home. Be creative with materials (recycled boxes etc)- you do NOT need to buy thing but you must plan ahead.3. Interview a Famous Egyptian Person using Telestory App or iMovie (alone or with a peer) Directions : ● ?Research a famous Egyptian person who made an important contribution to the history and ?legacy of ancient Egypt. Some choices are as follow: Akhenaten and Tutankhamen, Cleopatra, Hatshepsut, Menes, Nefertiti, Ramses II or Ramses the Great, Thutmose III, etc. Take notes as you research. ?● ?Using the notes from your research develop an interview format for your “famous Egyptian person”. ?● ?You may choose to interview and “be” the famous person, but this will take some planning and creativity OR you may work with a partner. One of you can be the interviewer and one can be the famous person. Remember, Telestory allows you to use “costumes” on the app. ?● ?Develop a script for your interview. This should be preapproved by a teacher before recording your interview. The script must include significant personal details of the person as well as this person’s impact and major contributions to Egyptian history. ?● ?Your interview should be no longer than five minutes. ?● ?Export your Telestory or iMovie to your camera roll. You can then upload it to SHOWBIE. ?4. Create a timeline of Ancient Egypt from the Unification of Upper and Lower Egypt (~3100BCE) – Roman Absorption(~30 BC) ?Directions: Using your textbook and other resources available, create a timeline of important events that occurred during this time. ?● ?Use the app Timeline to record the important events. ● ?The timeline should be organized by DATE. Enter a title for your Timeline- Ancient Egyptian History. ?● ?Your LABEL should be your date of relevance ( 500 B.C.) ?● ?Short Description should be the event itself ( Upper and Lower Egypt United) ?● ?Long Description- Two to four sentences regarding the event. ? ● ?You may add an image if you like, but be sure these do not take away from the timeline itself. ?● ?Your timeline should have 8-10 events ( dates)?When complete, SAVE FINAL. This creates TWO-THREE JPEG files. The first will be your timeline, the second and third will be your sources and Long Descriptions. All should be submitted to your teacher in SHOWBIE. ?5. Write a myth using Egyptian Gods ?Directions: Use the Creating a Myth Graphic Organizer found on your teacher’s website to brainstorm ideas about your myth. Remember your myth should explain a natural event or occurrence. You should have a specific setting (time and place). Be sure you have a protagonist and an antagonist that are struggling with a conflict. Most myths also emphasize some human emotion or vice ( jealousy, greed, impatience), describe a natural phenomenon, or the importance of a god/goddess. Make sure to keep Ancient Egyptian life and culture in mind when creating the plot. Once you have brainstormed your ideas in your graphic organizer, write your myth. ?● ?It should be one- three pages typed. ?● ?You may add pictures if you like. ?● ?If you would like to present your myth as a story book, you may do so using Explain ?Everything or Keynote. ?6. Diorama of the interior of a pyramidDirections:?Create a diorama of the inside of a pyramid showing what archeologists have discovered about the tombs, different chambers, and passageways. Your diorama should be no smaller than an adult shoe box. Attach a 4 x 6 note card explaining your diorama to the back of your project. ?7. Presentation of Egyptian Architecture- 2 examplesUsing Explain Everything OR a Poster for EACH structureDirections:Research ancient Egyptian architecture, take notes, and save sources. Find pictures of each structure and include information about each including its size, location, date constructed, purpose of structure, description of the engineering necessary to create the structure (if known), and any other interesting “fun facts”.Organize your information into an informative and creative presentation using both text and images. Video clips are also welcome in the project 8. Egyptian Math - Complete the EGYPTIAN MATH WORKSHEETS. See your teacher for this packet.DIRECTIONS FOR MAKING QUIZZES ?9. Make a quiz on 4.110. Make a quiz on 4.2?11. Make a quiz on 4.3?First read the entire section and take a minimum of 8 notes on the section (informative, substantial, stand-on-their own notes using QCIPL). Then design a 20 question quiz that is broken down to the following categories: 5 matching, 10 multiple choice, and 5 True and False. You must present an answer key with your completed quiz and submit both the quiz and answer key into Showbie as a PDF. ?12. Newspaper Article on the eruption of a Day in the Life in EgyptDirections : Using the resources given by your teacher, your own research, your book and any other resources that are in your class, write a create a front page of a newspaper. You should include an article about one historically accurate major event (some examples include: the crowning or death of a major pharaoh, unveiling of a major architectural structure, invasion from an outside land, major trade expedition, signing of the first peace treaty etc).Your paper should also include smaller articles of realistic fiction events showing your understanding of daily life in Egypt during this time period (the local shaduf breaks, the weather, planning of a religious ceremony, etc.) The newspaper page should include one major article including a picture and at least 3 additional smaller articles. Use the examples given by your teacher to follow a newspaper format.**Be sure to include a personal account of some sort from an eye witness. Also, include a picture of some sort. You should have a catching headline as well. Your main article should be at least 350 words in length. The article, picture, and headline should fit on one typed page. Be sure that your article aims to answer the essential who, what, where, when, why style of questions. ? 13. Political Campaign Project- Directions: You are the campaign manager for a prominent political figure of Ancient Egypt. Although Egyptian pharaohs were appointed by family lineage, pretend that the pharaoh is up for election and wants to stay in office. Look at the list from option 3 (if you are interested in someone not on the list, get approval from your teacher first) and determine which politician you will help keep in office. You will need to research a bit about the person you chose. Use your book and other sources in your classroom to help you with this. Make sure to include the pharaoh’s achievements as the means to get them “reelected” and paint a clear vision of the Egypt this particular pharaoh was trying to create.You may do one of the following to help get this individual into office: ● ?Write a speech indicating all the great things your politician will do. Present this to the ?class. It should have some historical relevance to it. ?● ?Create a commercial for your politician. You may use Explain Everything or iMovie. ?● ?Create a campaign poster for your politician. It must list this person’s qualifications ?14. Travel BrochureDirections:Pretend you are a travel agent, living during the time period we are studying, advertising a vacation throughout the Egyptian Empire. Include information about the weather, daily life, and popular tourist attractions one may want to visit during his/her vacation. You will use your book and other resources for information about the weather as well as tourist attractions.See your teacher for a list of the major cities as well as the format of the brochure. 15. Trace the Trade RoutesDirections:Using the reference sheet provided by your teacher, create a map of Egypt and its trade routes. Make sure the map is drawn to scale. Include a title, a compass rose, a key, and appropriate symbols for each resource provided from that region. Make sure to label all bodies of water and regions where the resources were found. Answer the questions provided on the map page on a separate sheet of paper.16. 3D Map of Upper and Lower EgyptDirections:Create a 3D map of Egypt including the following places, structures, and natural features:Nile River and it’s sources (accurately depicted with the delta)Red Land and Black LandCataracts Mediterranean SeaRed SeaSinai PeninsulaDistinction of Upper and Lower EgyptGiza- Great Pyramids and SphinxThebes/LuxorColossi of MemnonValley of the Kings and Valley of the QueensAbu SimbelTemple of IsisModern day CairoAlexandria17. Pitch your own independent project?Directions: If you have a particular interest in ancient Egyptian history that is not covered by one of the choices above, you may speak with your teacher about designing and creating your own assignment. The assignment must focus on a key figure, historical event, engineering, or cultural element of ancient Egypt. The directions for completion must be clearly outlined and explained, and there must be a final outcome to the project that can adhere to the grading rubric. **** Some project topics overlap. For example, you could create a model of an architectural structure for option 1 and a poster of an architectural structure for option 7. Although you may choose topics that are similar (ex. Architecture), you cannot complete more than one project on the same structure.
