1. Ancient Rome- Diary Project

Assignment: Create a diary from the perspective of St. Paul as he spread Christianity and helped develop the early Christian Church.

Write at least five entries from different points along your journey. The more realistic you can make the diary through creating a believable narrator and using concrete details, the better. You must:

• Describe in detail what life was like for him, showing an understanding of his perspective and the perspective of those he met

• Provide specific details: consider who, what, where, when, why

• Demonstrate knowledge early Christianity

• Show visuals of historical life using maps or pictures (at least 3)

• Be well-written using standard English conventions

• Include at least 5 entries of one full paragraph each

2. Mosaic Directions

A mosaic was a form of Ancient Roman art in which people used many small tiles of different colors to create a picture. For example, this artist used tiles to make a picture of a bull:

Your task is to construct a mosaic that displays a scene from Roman life.  You can show any person, place, or thing that we have studied so far in this unit. Please have the teacher approve your topic!

Your finished mosaic should be about the size of an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper. You may glue small pieces of paper to a larger background paper. Or, you can use hot glue to create a picture with tiles, stones, fake jewels, or any other craft material of your choice. 

You must include a one page report, neatly handwritten or preferably typed, describing what a mosaic is, how the Ancient Romans used mosaics, and how your mosaic represents an aspect of life in Ancient Rome.

Before you begin, read the rubric! Check the rubric again before you turn in your product.

3. Ancient Roman Fashion- Directions

Create a fashion magazine, with a minimum 4 pages, showing at least 4 different styles of Roman dress.  You may hand-draw each outfit, or use images from the Internet- just be sure to list the website where you found each photo. Each type of outfit must have a paragraph that describes it and tells about the type of person who would have worn it.  Include the following information:

What is each part of the outfit called?

Who made it?

What is it made of?

Who wore it (senators, upper-class nobles, farmers, slaves, noble-women, etc.)?

Was it everyday dress or for special occasions?

Were there any accessories? What were they for?

4. Brochure Directions

Research the Roman legion and what it took to be a legionnaire, a soldier in the Roman army. Write a brochure recruiting people to join the Roman legion. Your brochure should be on a piece of 8.5x11 paper folded into thirds. It should have at least 3 drawings or photos (if taken from the Internet, cit your sources) and at least 6 paragraphs (4-5 sentences each of text) covering the following information:

5. Timeline Instruction

Design a timeline showing important events in Roman history.  Choose the events that you think were most important to the history of Rome. You must include at least 10 events, and each event must have a 3-4 sentence description and an illustration or picture, either hand-drawn of from the Internet (if you use a photo from the Internet, list the site it is from!).  Your timeline should be put onto a poster size paper.

6. Collage Directions
