Assigning Responsibilities:

Each person must decide which parts of the assignment they will complete. Signing your name next to a particular component indicates that those items will be used to calculate your individual grade. If the other person does not complete their components, your grade will not be affected.

Checkpoints – Staying on Track!

The project contains multiple components that must be completed in order to submit a finished product. During each class period, the skills and resources you need to complete a component will be taught, practiced and reviewed. Your job is to then apply what you learn to your own project’s components. Follow the listed deadlines to stay on track:

Historical Figure

The historical figures selected for this project represent their region of the world at this point in history. Research your historical figure and record your findings on the various required topics. You will use your research to create a “Life-sizer” of your historical figure. The Life-sizer must teach the class about your historical figure in a creative way.

Life Sizer Instructions

[pic] [pic] [pic]

Locate and print out five or six pictures to refer to in preparing your

Lifesizer, look for different poses, sketches and other artwork

from the time period

Position determine how to best position your figure to incorporate all the required elements

Trace a person in the pose needed on white paper

Get the cardboard necessary to support the paper silhouette when you assemble the project for display

Plan out how you will incorporate all the required elements:

Name – spelled correctly, large and easy to read from 10 feet away, easy to find

Pocket – sturdy and included on the front to hold your completed brochure

Student information – on the front, clear and easy to read, name and class period

Clothing – may be drawn or dressed, your choice and appropriate for the person’s

role and time period

Key Terms – incorporate words important

to your region and figure creatively on life sizer

Historical Figure

Cultural Representation - Artifacts

Select one artifact from each category to display at your World’s Fair Booth. Each artifact must be displayed with a notecard of 50 - 75 words explaining its significance. Be creative in selection of artifacts, you are not required to spend money, use everyday items.

|Example |Artifact: Gutenberg Bible |

| |Significance: Martin Luther daringly translated the Bible into German so that everyone could read it for themselves. This |

|Intellectual |defied the authority of the Catholic Church. The Pope required that the Bible, church doctrine and services all be in Latin. |

|word count = 77 |This was a way of maintaining control. The printing press was invented during this time period and the first book mass printed|

| |was the Bible in German, named the Gutenberg Bible after Johann Gutenberg inventor of the printing press. |

Cultural Analysis – Brochure

Design a brochure that teaches about your historical figure and assigned culture. Compile information from each P.E.R.S.I.A.N. category creating a snapshot overview.

|Example |Martin Luther was a German monk who realized that the Catholic Church had become corrupt. He wrote a letter to his bishop |

| |warning the Pope about his concerns, specifically the selling of indulgences and how they were taking advantage of people. |

|Religion |When pressured by the Pope to recant, Luther refused and responded by translating the Bible into German so all could read it |

| |themselves. He taught that salvation is through faith alone and Christians should live by the Word of God alone and not |

| |church tradition. His actions brought about a split in Christianity into the Catholic and Protestant branches. |

• Create one card for each category

• Proofread your work and make any edits necessary on this packet copy

• Type notes into correct format and save document created, use 16 – 20 point font that is simple and easy to read from a distance

• Print all cards

Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due – Works Cited/Bibliography

As you research, you will need to record your sources. Each group member is responsible for citing 5 sources. As a group you must cite 10 different sources. Use the suggested format below, then keep track of your sources using the chart provided on the back of the paper.

The examples of works cited pages should help you see how to format your page.  Here are some rules for the format of the entries:

• Underline the titles of books, magazines, films, etc.

• Quotation marks go around titles of poems, articles, and short stories.

• Authors are listed by their last name first.

Following are examples to further explain sources that are not covered by the previous rules. The examples are not double spaced or indented as they would be in your paper.
