Cold War Timeline Booklet Activity

Directions: With 5 pieces of printer paper we will make a booklet together. On even numbered pages you will write the title of the event, the date, and write a paragraph explaining the event and its significance. On odd numbered pages you will create an image / cartoon representing the event on the facing page. Lastly you will create a cover that represents the Cold War in general.

• 1945: World War II Ends and the Cold War Begins

• 1945: Chinese Civil War Begins

• March 1946: Winston Churchill delivers the Iron Curtain Speech

• May 1948: US and Britain break the Soviet blockade of West Berlin with the Berlin Airlift

• 1949: China Divides into Two Countries (People’s Republic of China and Taiwan)

• 1949: North Atlantic Treaty Organization is formed

• 1950: Soviet Union signed friendship treaty with China

• 1950 to 1953: Korean War

• 1954: Vietnam War Begins

• 1955: Warsaw Pact is formed

• 1961: US is defeated and humiliated at the Bay of Pigs in Cuba

• August 1961: Berlin Wall is Built

• October 1962: Cuban Missile Crisis

• 1974: Vietnam War is over

• November 1989: Fall of the Berlin Wall

• October 1990: Germany is reunited

• December 1991: Soviet Union Collapses (Establishment of the Russian Federation)

Directions: Using the dates from the list of events below you will be creating a Cold War timeline. You will select SEVEN of these events. On a half sheet of paper you will write the title of the event, the date, and create an image. On another half sheet of paper you will write a paragraph explaining the event and its significance. Next you will glue the two pieces of paper to a piece of construction paper. (You will do this for each event.)
