MEL MURDOCK

Gentleman, outside of these doors we have over three hundred new guests that have just checked into the Windward Resort with disposable income. How many of you are here to make a ton of money? Raise your hand.

The camera pans over the long table again and focuses on every individual’s hand raised high.

MEL MURDOCK

Those three hundred new guests will all be here tomorrow in this room listening to our sales pitch on time sharing. If we only close 30 percent of them, each of you will make at least a hundred thousand for three days work. Pause… Do I now have your undivided attention?

Mel Murdoch looks over and makes eye contact with BILLY MARTIN a man wearing a red shirt age 35 and nods his head before continuing his sales pitch.

BILLY MARTIN

You’ve got mine Mr. Murdock.

MEL MURDOCK

MEL MURDOCK

Does anyone want to take a crack at it? Pause…

Mel Murdock holds up two fingers and takes another imaginary swing with his baseball bat.

MEL MURDOCK

I’ll give you a second chance to earn the hundred dollars if you can tell me what the initials SWAT stands for?

INT. WINDWARD RESORT TIME SHARE MEETING ROOM-1PM

MUSIC: UNDECIDED

Mel Murdoch is writing on a blackboard as everyone returns to their seat from lunch. Mel Murdock returns to the podium

to begin the afternoon training session on time sharing.

MEL MURDOCK

Can anyone in Group#1 give me the definition of Time Sharing?

The camera pans over to Group#1 and focuses on the faces of each of the individuals. The camera zooms in on Dixie Walker who raises his hand to answer the question.

DIXIE WALKER

Timesharing is a term that describes a method of use and ownership of a particular property. It normally allows you to use the property for a certain period of time each year.  You pay an initial investment for the timeshare and then you will pay a maintenance fee each year for the upkeep of the timeshare.

MEL MURDOCK

You are absolutely correct. Can anyone in Group#2 give me a benefit that comes with purchasing a time share?

The camera pans over to Group#2 and focuses on the faces of each of the individuals. The camera zooms in on Johnny Hudson who raises his hand to answer the question.

JOHNNY HUDSON

One of the benefits of purchasing a time share is that you have a specific place to vacation every year for a specific block of time.

MEL MURDOCK

That’s an excellent answer. Group#3 is there any downsides of having a specific date and time set to vacation?

Scene#2

Continued

The camera pans over to Group#3 and focuses on the faces of each of the individuals. The camera zooms in on Orlando Clemente who raises his hand to answer the question.

ORLANDO CLEMENTE

One of the downsides of a specific week every year is that something might come up where you can’t go on vacation on your designated week.

MEL MURDOCK

That is true. Can anyone in tell me how you would handle that objection?

The camera pans over to Group#1 and focuses on the faces of each of the individuals. The camera zooms in on Billy Martin who raises his hand to answer the question.

BILLY MARTIN

We offer alternate dates or other vacation properties where they can vacation.

MEL MURDOCK

Yes, we offer the vacationer other options. We have three programs that we at Windward Resorts Time Sharing can offer. There is our Premium Gold, Silver or Bronze Vacation Package. Each package is tailored to suit each individual or couples needs.

The camera pans around the table and focuses on the faces of each of the individuals opening up there notebooks to take down a few notes.

MEL MURDOCK

What makes us at Windward Resorts so successful is that we have more than 135,000 owners worldwide who use our services. This is a great selling tool when offering our vacation time share packages.

Scene#2

Continued

Mel Murdock opens a box filled with black binders and walks around the table distributing them to everyone seated at the table.

MEL MURDOCK

You have in front of you what I call a pitch binder. Everything you need to know about selling any of our programs is in this binder.

JOHNNY HUDSON

Jimmy Ripple, Cookie Kutter and I know something about pitching. Right boys?

The camera focuses on Group#2 as they acknowledge the pitching statement made by Johnny Hudson

MEL MURDOCK

I want each of you to take a couple of minutes to study the information. Then I’ll ask you to break up into three groups and pitch each other on the three programs. I’ll pay anyone one hundred dollars who can come up to the front of the room and sell me the Gold Premium Vacation Package.

CUT TO:

The camera focuses on Group#1 and zooms in on Billy Martin having a discussion with the other members of his group.

BILLY MARTIN

Dixie and I will team up. I’ll go first and then Dixie can pitch next to me.

MICKEY OWENS

Okay Billy. Red and I will buddy up.

The camera focuses on Group#1 and zooms in on Billy Martin opening up his pitch book and selling to Dixie Walker.

Scene#2

HUGH CASEY

You got it partner.

The camera focuses on Jimmy Ripple talking to Cookie Kutter.

JIMMY RIPPLE

I’ll be the starter Cookie and you can be the reliever.

COOKIE CUTTER

I’ll be the closer Jimmy.

CUT TO:

The camera focuses on Group# 3 in the back of the room. The camera zooms in on Bob bowman having a discussion with the other members of his group.

INTERCUT BETWEEN MEL MURDOCK AND MISTER CURT DAVIS

MEL MURDOCK

Good afternoon Mr. Davis

CUT TO:

EXT. HISTORIC DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON-

INT. WINDWARD RESORT TIME SHARE HEADQUARTERS OFFICE

The owner of Windward Resorts Time Share CURT DAVIS a man with grey hair age 60 wearing a white Polo shirt is puffing on a cigar sitting and rocking in a reclining chair in his office prepares to speak.

CURT DAVIS

Good afternoon Mel. How’s the sales training going?

MEL MURDOCK

Right now I’ve got them all broken up into three groups Mr. Davis. I’ll know by the end of the day how many sharks we have.

CURT DAVIS

I’d hope you have some piranhas in the group. There is some serious money to be made this Labor Day weekend. I have a lot of money tied up in direct mail marketing, telemarketing and gift certificates.

MEL MURDOCK

Don’t worry Mr. Davis. The Charleston Dawgs won’t let you down.

CURT DAVIS

That was a great idea recruiting the entire minor league baseball team. They can work up right up until they have to report to spring training and be able to work right through our busy tourist season.

Scene#2

Continued

MEL MURDOCK

Thanks Mr. Davis.

CURT DAVIS

Keep me posted, Mel. Bye.

CUT TO:

INT. WINDWARD RESORT TIME SHARE MEETING ROOM

The camera focuses on Mel Murdock as he walks over to the front of the room to address the group.

MEL MURDOCK

Does everyone feel more comfortable with the sales material?

Everyone in the room nods there heads in approval.

MEL MURDOCK

I’d like everyone to return to there seats. Who would like to come up to the front of the room and sell me a time share program?

Billy Martin in Group#1 quickly raises his hand to sell Mr. Murdock a vacation package.

MEL MURDOCK

Let’s give Billy a warm round of applause for being brave enough to go first.

Everyone in the room cheers and applauds loudly as Billy gets up from his seat with his pitch binder and walks to the front of the room where Mel Murdock is waiting.

The camera pans around the table and zooms in and focuses on all the faces and name tags of the men sitting in the room waiting to hear Billy Martin’s Time Share sales pitch.

Scene#2

Continued

Billy Martin extends his right hand and warmly greets Mel Murdock with a firm handshake never breaking eye contact.

BILLY MARTIN

Hi, my name is Billy Martin and I’d like to tell you about a special program.

MEL MURDOCK

Okay.

BILLY MARTIN

You take vacations right?

MEL MURDOCK

Every year.

BILLY MARTIN

Great! How many weeks years do you usually take?

MEL MURDOCK

I usually take two weeks a year to vacation.

BILLY MARTIN

Okay. How much money do you usually spend?

MEL MURDOCK

That depends on where I stay and how long I stay.

BILLY MARTIN

Do you spend under 5 thousand dollars or over 5 thousand dollars a year to vacation?

Scene#2

Continued

MEL MURDOCK

I spend over 5 thousand dollars a year to vacation. Why?

BILLY MARTIN

We have three vacation time share plans and based on your answer, I’d like to tell you about our Gold premium Vacation Package.

MEL MURDOCK

Okay.

BILLY MARTIN

Our gold premium vacation package includes a two week stay at our world-famous Windward resort at the Isle of Palms minutes away from Charleston South Carolina.

MEL MURDOCK

Windward Resort huh?

BILLY MARTIN

Yes! The Windward resort which offers luxurious living quarters, four star restaurants, a fitness center, tennis courts and two championship golf courses.

MEL MURDOCK

But I don’t like golf.

BILLY MARTIN

Was there anything that you saw on the tour of our facilities that you liked?

MEL MURDOCK

I liked the beaches and the ocean.

Scene#2

Continued

BILLY MARTIN

Many people come here for the seclusion and privacy of our beaches. There are a lot of people who come here that aren’t interested in golf.

MEL MURDOCK

You have a beautiful vacation property.

BILLY MARTIN

If I could show you a way that you could spend two weeks a year at this beautiful ocean front property would if be worth a 90 minute investment of your time?

MEL MURDOCK

90 minutes of my time? I guess so.

BILLY MARTIN

Great! Please follow me over to my table and I’ll go over everything you need to know about our Gold Premium Time Share vacation package.

MEL MURDOCK

Let’s give Billy Martin a loud round of applause. I want everyone to realize one of the most important steps in the selling process is the meet and greet. Billy Martin did an excellent job making me feel important.

Everyone in the room stands up and cheers Billy’s sales pitch.

MEL MURDOCK

The most important part of your job is to get people to feel warm and fuzzy. My job will be to close all of your deals and pay you a hell of a lot of money! We’ll meet again tomorrow at 8am and go over landing on a program. By 1Pm tomorrow everyone in this room will be selling with a plan.

Scene #3

EXT. WINDWARD RESORT-ISLE OF PALMS SOUTH CAROLINA

INT. WINDWARD RESORT TIME SHARE MEETING ROOM

MUSIC: UNDECIDED

Mel Murdock is standing at the podium ready to address the room full of salesman.

MEL MURDOCK

Good morning gentleman. We are going to cover all of the bases today and go over the complete selling process.

The camera zooms in and focuses in on the three groups of salesman opening up their note books ready to take notes.

MEL MURDOCK

There are seven stages in the selling Process that we will be covering. Each step is vital. If you follow the process you will close a high percentage of your deals. I’ll give anyone in the room a hundred dollars if you can tell me what the most important step in the seven step process is?

Orlando Clemente of Group#3 raises his hand and stands up to answer the question to win the prize money.

ORLANDO CLEMENTE

The MEET AND GREET is the most important part of the selling process.

MEL MURDOCK

Orlando you’re absolutely correct. You’ve just earned a quick one hundred dollar bill.

Mel Murdock walks over to Orlando Clemente and taps him on the shoulder and hands him the one hundred dollar bill.

The camera follows Mel Murdock back to the podium.

Scene#3

Continued

MEL MURDOCK

Within the first thirty seconds of meeting the customer, he or she has already made up their mind whether they can trust you or not. A firm handshake, a smile, and eye contact are all vital in the MEET AND GREET. Did you ever buy something from someone you didn’t like?

HUGH CASEY

I did! It was a bad experience. One I’ll never forget.

MEL MURDOCK

We need to ICE the Customer.

Can anyone tell what the acronym ICE means?

COOKIE KUTTER

(JOKING)

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Ice cream!

MEL MURDOCK

The initials ICE stand for Improve Customers Experience.

HUGH CASEY

It makes sense to me. Be the best at what you do and the money will follow.

MEL MURDOCK

I’ll use a baseball analogy to make this simple. The MEET AND GREET gets you to first base.

BILLY MARTIN

That’s my position I can relate.

Scene#3

Continued

MEL MURDOCK

Now going from 1st to second base is a challenge and where most salesmen fail. They fail to QUALIFY the customer and find out exactly what they want to purchase. Qualifying is simply a fact finding mission. Asking questions and listening to what the customer is really asking.

BOB BOWMAN

That’s why we have two ears and only one mouth to speak.

MEL MURDOCK

QUALIFYING means asking questions and listening for answers to determine the customers needs. It’s like going to the doctor. A proper diagnosis starts with asking questions or the doctor asking you to fill out a form.

DIXIE WALKER

So how do we get to third base?

MEL MURDOCK

I’m glad you’re paying attention Dixie. You get to third base by LANDING ON A PROGRAM. When you’ve asked the right questions, you’ll be able to determine what plan is right for your customer.

RED EVANS

Money is always the determining factor. The customer wants to drink champagne, but he can only afford a six pack of beer.

MEL MURDOCK

Now getting from third base to home plate is where you have a coach waiting to help you get to your final destination.

Scene#3

Continued

JIMMY RIPPLE

This is all starting to make sense.

MEL MURDOCK

The customer is always going to have an objection to throw at you. No different then when a pitcher throws an inside pitch to the batter to move him off the plate.

JOHNNY HUDSON

I’ve been known to back a hot hitter off the plate.

MEL MURDOCK

The customer doesn’t want to be sold! He wants to buy!

FRANK HOWARD

So how do we get from third to home coach?

MEL MURDOCK

You ASK FOR THE SALE and be completely silent. Even if you have to wait a couple of minutes for the customer to answer. I can tell you from my own personal experience, the next person who speaks loses.

FRANK HOWARD

Silence is golden.

MEL MURDOCK

This is where you separate the men from the boys. A good salesman is no match for the customer. It’s like having a relief pitcher with an over powering fastball.

MICKEY OWENS

So what happens when the hitter fouls off a pitch?

Scene#3

Continued

MEL MURDOCK

A hitter fouling off a pitch is like when a customer has an objection, you need to rephrase the question and REQUALIFY the customer on his specific needs.

JERRY CHEEVERS

Sounds a little complicated.

MEL MURDOCK

Here’s an example of REQUALIFYING the customer. Based on what I’ve told you what is the one thing that is preventing you from making this deal today?

JERRY CHEEVERS

You still haven’t explained how we get from third to home coach?

MEL MURDOCK

The last step in the process is called the TO or Turnover Over. That’s where you politely call a time out with your customer. Then you go over to me your coach and tell me the customer’s name and where you are in the seven step process.

JERRY CHEEVERS

Then what coach?

MEL MURDOCK

You introduce me to your customer and listen to my sales pitch. At no time will you interrupt. I will make sure you circle the bases and close the deal.

BILLY MARTIN

Now I get it coach! The seven step selling process is our formula for success.

Scene#3

Continued

MEL MURDOCK

Two of the main reasons customer’s buy is through passion or because of fear.

DIXIE WALKER

I always thought logic is what makes people buy?

MEL MURDOCK

The main reason that people buy is that they become emotional. I want each and every one of you to become passionate about what you have to offer.

BILLY MARTIN

Hey Coach, you left out the fear factor?

MEL MURDOCK

Good pick up Mr. First basemen. That’s where I come in to close your deal and create a sense of urgency.

BILLY MARTIN

Does that anything to do with selling what’s available today? Or SWAT….as you refer to it.

MEL MURDOCK

Absolutely! My job is to help you find the customer’s hot button. There is no objection that can not be overcome. Even a condition such as lack of money can be overcome by offering our in house financing.

DIXIE WALKER

I like the team concept coach. The seven step process is easy to follow. I’m going to find each customers hot button and call a time out and get you involved in every deal. Put me in the lineup coach, I’m ready to play!

Scene#3

Continued

MEL MURDOCK

When you’ve been in the business as long as I have, you’ll learn all the tricks of the trade. I don’t expect you to absorb everything in a couple of days. Everything takes time.

BILLY MARTIN

I want to know coach do you have any tricks up your sleeve you can share with us today?

MEL MURDOCK

Be a puppy dog! Smile warmly at everyone you meet. Leave your ego and worries outside your door before you leave for work. Get your customer to feel warm and fuzzy.

DIXIE WALKER

Like you said coach, people buy from people they like.

MEL MURDOCK

People will buy more from you if they trust you. They will go out of their way to tell all of their friends.

BOB BOWMAN

Isn’t that what you call referrals?

MEL MURDOCK

Yes! Referrals are a very big part of our business. Referrals are like money in the bank. This is more you get to sell your customer your entire top of the line programs without any concerns about price.

ORLANDO CLEMENTE

But what if price because the major objection? How do we handle the price objection?

Scene#3

Continued

MEL MURDOCK

You never sell on price. You sell value.

ORLANDO CLEMENTE

What if they still go back to the price?

MEL MURDOCK

You sell benefits.

ORLANDO CLEMENTE

And what do you do if that doesn’t work?

MEL MURDOCK

You play take away. You take away some of the benefits of the plan. You ask them which benefits they would like to do without? No one wants to have a possession taken away from them.

ORLANDO CLEMENTE

If I get stuck coach, I’ll just call a time out.

MEL MURDOCK

Everyone wants to feel like there getting a good deal. We all want the most bang for our buck. Our motto here at Windward Resorts is having everyone who enters our doors to be treated as royalty. When our guests leave our property we want them to feel like family. We want them all to be happy and coming back to vacation here for years to come.

BILLY MARTIN

Coach, you paint a pretty picture. You make it sound like we are selling a way of life.

MEL MURDOCK

Absolutely! You’re selling a Windward Resorts way of life.

CURT DAVIS

Hey Mel, I’m calling to let you know the girls from Hoot N Holla will be arriving at 2 today by limousine.

MEL MURDOCK

You mean the home of hot wings and sexy young things.

CURT DAVIS

Yeah! These girls are hotter than the chili peppers and barbecue sauce!

MEL MURDOCK

I’m already excited. How many girls am I expecting and what are their names?

CURT DAVIS

I’ve got three girls coming. TRIXIE WILLIAMS, DOLLY ANDERSON, and BETTY LAMAR.

MEL MURDOCK

All the salesmen are at lunch. The guests are scheduled to be here by 3pm today. That gives me plenty of time to have a final meeting with the girls and all the salesmen.

CURT DAVIS

What about all the electronic equipment? Did you do what I asked you to do?

Scene#4

Continued

MEL MURDOCK

Yes sir, I just have to get rid of the motors and internal parts of the DVD players, VCR’s and chime clocks.

CURT DAVIS

Make sure you get rid of that stuff. We don’t want to leave any evidence if someone starts snooping around.

MEL MURDOCK

I’ll get on it right away.

CURT DAVIS

Talk to you later. Bye

CUT TO:

INT. MEL MURDOCK’S OFFICE

The camera pans around the room and zooms in on rows of DVD players, VCR’s, clocks and electronic equipment stacked to the ceiling.

Mel Murdock is throwing motors and electrical parts into a large green trash can. Mel is interrupted by a knock on the door.

BILLY MARTIN

Dixie and I was wondering if you want us to bring you back something from the restaurant?

Mel Murdock picks up a tape dispenser and seals shut one of three boxes of DVD player on his desk.

MEL MURDOCK

No Thanks Billy. I’ll tell you what you can do for me. Can you and Dixie take this trash can out back and dump it in one of the large dumpsters?

Scene#4

BILLY MARTIN

No problem at all Mr. Murdock.

Billy Martin and Dixie Walker pick up the heavy large green trash can filled with electrical components and head out the door.

DIXIE WALKER

Hey Billy, what do you think Mel Murdock is up to?

Billy Martin picks out one of the motors out of the bottom of the trash container and holds it in his hand.

BILLY MARTIN

I haven’t got a clue Dixie.

DIXIE WALKER

Would you like to buy a vowel?

BILLY MARTIN

There must be over a hundred pieces of electronic equipment in Mr. Murdock’s office. Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

DIXIE WALKER

It would be a shame if none of that electronic equipment in Mel Murdock’s office worked. I’d like to be a fly on the wall right about now. Wouldn’t you Billy?

Scene#4

Continued

BILLY MARTIN

Heck yeah! I’d sure like to know.

DIXIE WALKER

Maybe I’m over reacting. There’s probably a good explanation for Mel Murdock asking us to get rid of all these electrical parts.

BILLY MARTIN

Why would Mel Murdock go to all that trouble to sabotage every piece of equipment?

DIXIE WALKER

Beats the heck out of me? Pause…Not enough fiber.

CUT TO:

EXT. WINDWARD RESORTS MAIN ENTRANCE

The camera zooms in on a black stretch limousine stopping in front of the main entrance. The camera now focuses on the limousine driver getting out of the vehicle and opening the passenger door where three women are seen waiting to exit the vehicle.

TRIXIE WALKER

Come on girls, we don’t want to be late.

A brunette woman named DOLLY ANDERSON also in her early twenties wearing a black mini skirt and a short white halter top is the second women to step out of the vehicle.

DOLLY ANDERSON

BESSIE LEWIS an elderly woman with salt and pepper gray hair wearing white cotton dress with a yellow bow in her hair looks at the envelope in her hand and comments to her husband FRED LEWIS.

BESSIE LEWIS

Thanks for coming down here with me today to listen to the time share presentation.

FRED LEWIS a balding man in his mid sixties wearing a white Miami Dolphins baseball cap and matching tee shirt with a blue pair of shorts takes off his cap and scratches his head and turns to speak to Bessie.

FRED LEWIS

The only reason I let you drag me down here is to get that free gift.

BESSIE LEWIS

It says right here that just for listening to the 90 minute presentation we’ll get a DVD player.

Bessie points to the invitation envelope she is holding in her hand for confirmation.

FRED LEWIS

Bessie, there’s always a catch. If it sounds true good to be true, it probably is.

Scene#5

BESSIE LEWIS

If doesn’t cost anything to listen.

FRED LEWIS

Well, you can do all the listening for both of us. The last time I listened to a salesman I ended up buying a car that I hated.

BESSIE LEWIS

I thought you liked that car Fred.

FRED LEWIS

I liked my old car a lot better.

BESSIE LEWIS

What was it that you liked so much about that old jalopy?

FRED LEWIS

(Sarcastically)

I liked the fact that the old jalopy that you refer to was paid off.

BESSIE LEWIS

Honey that car was becoming an eye sore in our driveway.

FRED LEWIS

Eye sore? Every month when I get the monthly car payment statement and take a look at the bill that I have to pay on a fixed income, that’s an eye sore.

BESSIE LEWIS

Well I promise you Fred this isn’t going to cost you thousands of dollars like the car we desperately needed.

SCENE#5

FRED LEWIS

What do you plan to do with this DVD player anyway?

BESSIE LEWIS

I wanted to give it our son Leonard as a Christmas present.

FRED LEWIS

But Christmas isn’t for another couple of months.

BESSIE LEWIS

I’ll just gift wrap it and put it away in our closet.

FRED LEWIS

For a moment there I thought you wanted me to learn how to work it. I still haven’t figured out how to set the clock on our VCR.

BESSIE LEWIS

Thanks for coming here today Fred. That’s why I love you.

FRED LEWIS

Leonard likes all those new fangled electronic gadgets. I’m sure he’ll have no problem programming it.

BESSIE LEWIS

Remember when you came home with that universal remote and were having problems getting it work? Leonard was the one who programmed it and got it to work.

FRED LEWIS

What I remember most about that incident is what the salesman told me when I called the store and asked for his help to program the remote control. He rudely told me to RTFM and hung up the phone.

Scene#5

Continued

BESSIE LEWIS

That wasn’t nice of him. What does that mean? RTFM!

FRED LEWIS

I had to call the store back to find out.

BESSIE LEWIS

Okay.

FRED LEWIS

So I asked him what RTFM meant? He rudely told me to READ THE FREAKING MANUAL and hung up again.

BESSIE LEWIS

That’s terrible!

FRED LEWIS

I couldn’t believe the salesman was so rude and hung up on me again. So I called back the store and asked to speak to the salesman. He got on the phone and without giving me a chance to speak insulted my intelligence. He told me that since I wasn’t smart enough to operate the remote control, I should return it and get my money back.

BESSIE LEWIS

So what did you do?

FRED LEWIS

I called our son Leonard the lawyer and he called the store manager and told him that if the salesman did not call back to apologize we’d see him in court.

BESSIE LEWIS

Now that explains why that obnoxious salesman called you back. It’s good to have a lawyer in the family.

TRIXIE WILLIAMS

I took up photography as a way to make new friends. I simply take photos of all the people Fred and I meet. Then I get them to provide me with their home address and in a couple of weeks I send them a keep sake photo.

BETTY LAMAR

That is so sweet of you.

Wally Ryan is a big time golfer. It was our championship golf courses that sealed the deal. I sold the plan based on its value and benefits. The price of the vacation package was never mentioned. Money was never an issue.

BILLY MARTIN

My hitting coach has been trying for years to get me to be more patient at the plate.

MEL MURDOCK

The curveball is what keeps guys like us in the minor leagues. Just about everyone can hit a fastball. It takes a real patient hitter who can recognize what pitch is coming at him.

BILLY MARTIN

Sort of like strengths and weaknesses.

MEL MURDOCK

Recognize your customer and you can take advantage of there weaknesses. A good salesman is a like having a baseball pitcher throwing a wicked curveball that no one can hit.

Mel Murdock extends his hand and shakes Henry Wu’s hand warmly. He bows before he takes Kaitty’s hand and turns it every so slightly before he shakes it.

MEL MURDOCK

Did you enjoy the tour of our vacation property?

HENRY WU

Yes. My wife and I like the ocean view.

MEL MURDOCK

Yes, the ocean view is what attracts many people to buy.

Scene#8

Continued

MEL MURDOCK

So which vacation package are you and your wife interested in today?

HENRY WU

Well, there was one thing about the tour I did not enjoy.

MEL MURDOCK

And what was that Mr. Wu?

HENRY WU

My wife and I did not appreciate your salesman Johnny Hudson’s racist comment. What is funny for some people is an insult to another.

MEL MURDOCK

You are absolutely right Mr. Wu. I offer you my deepest apology. What can I do to make it up to you?

HENRY WU

For starters, I would like you to drop the price.

MEL MURDOCK

Which vacation package were you interested in purchasing?

HENRY WU

Kaitty and I were interested in the Silver time share vacation package. If you can drop the price by two thousand dollars, you have a deal.

MEL MURDOCK

I’m sorry Mr. Wu. But the price is the price. If you shop the competition, you’ll find our price is a fair one.

Scene#8

Continued

HENRY WU

You are not a good business man Mr. Murdock.

MEL MURDOCK

Excuse me? What is that supposed to mean Mr. Wu?

HENRY WU

I’ll give you eight thousand dollars cash right now! Take it or leave it.

MEL MURDOCK

I’m sorry you and I can’t do business today Mr. Wu.

HENRY WU

All of you salesmen are all alike. You’re a bunch of crooks.

MEL MURDOCK

Crooks?

HENRY WU

Yes. You’re all crooks!

Mel Murdock takes the vacation time share contract from Johnny Hudson’s hand and studies it for a moment.

MEL MURDOCK

You want my lowest price? Here it is!

Mel Murdock drops the contract on the ground and points to it.

MEL MURDOCK

(CALMLY)

Now have a nice day. Bye.

BESSIE LEWIS

We are on a fixed budget Mr. Murdock.

FRED LEWIS

We don’t have that kind of money. That’s a lot of money.

MEL MURDOCK

I understand. But we do have financing? Which plan did you like?

FRED LEWIS

What’s the interest rate on your financing?

MEL MURDOCK

I believe it’s twenty two percent.

FRED LEWIS

You know in the old days, when the bookies charged twenty percent they called it loan sharking. Now when the banks and finance companies do it they call it legal.

Scene#9

MEL MURDOCK

I don’t work for the finance company Mr. Lewis.

We at Windward Resorts have nothing to do with interest rates.

FRED LEWIS

There should be a law against over charging the public. This is a prime example of organized crime.

MEL MURDOCK

Like I said, the financing is just another option for people like you who can’t afford any of our vacation packages.

FRED LEWIS

What do you mean by I can’t afford it?

MEL MURDOCK

It’s okay Mr. Lewis. I understand.

FRED LEWIS

Understand what? Just because I’m retired and living on a fixed budget Mr. Murdock doesn’t mean I can’t afford it.

BOB BOWMAN

Well, I’ll make sure I autograph a baseball for you.

FRED LEWIS

All of you will be packing your bags and heading to spring training to get ready for the upcoming minor league baseball season. I wish all of you luck on your quest towards making it to the major leagues.

All The salesmen in the room stand up and cheer giving themselves a roaring standing ovation.

MEL MURDOCK

I spent ten years in the minors and never got the chance to play professional baseball on the highest level. I wasn’t good enough. So I needed a back up plan and this is it for me. I hope to see all of you playing in the major leagues next year. But for those of you who don’t make it, I hope to see you back here next year.

A man dressed in a uniform is knocks on the meeting room door. Orlando Clemente opens the door and listens to the man and then points to Mel Murdock.

The camera follows the man as he walks up to the front of the room where Mel Murdock is standing and hands him an envelope.

Mel Murdock opens the large envelope and pulls out a dozen white envelopes that are tied in a bundle. He goes through the bundle of envelopes and finds everyone’s name on a letter.

MEL MURDOCK

It looks like someone has gone through the trouble of sending each and every one of us a letter.

ORLANDO CLEMENTE

I hope it’s a letter from my agent.

Mel inspects the return address on the envelope and comments.

MEL MURDOCK

No, it’s not from an agent.

Mel walks around the room and hands each man an envelope with his name imprinted on it.

The camera pans around the room as each man opens his personalized letter to read. The camera zooms in on Mel Murdock as he puts on his glasses to read his letter.

Billy Martin stands up after reading his letter in disbelief.

BILLY MARTIN

I am being subpoenaed to appear in court.

MEL MURDOCK

We all are.

RED EVANS

The court date is the same date that were all supposed to report for spring training.

MICKEY OWENS

Talk about bad timing!

MEL MURDOCK

It appears some of our guests have filed a complaint against Windward Resorts Time Sharing.

BILLY MARTIN

These are some very serious charges they are filed against us.

MEL MURDOCK

It’s a case of sour grapes.

JOHNNY HUDSON

This is going to ruin my career.

MEL MURDOCK

It looks like all that sales commission is going to have to be used to find a good defense lawyer.

BILLY MARTIN

This is going to be bigger than the Chicago Black sox gambling scandal.

The camera pans around the room and captures the dejection and frustration on each mans face.

Scene#13

MEL MURDOCK

Gentlemen, would you excuse me for a minute. I’m going to call our headquarter office and see if they can straighten this out.

Mel Murdock pulls out his cellular phone and dials the Curt

The camera follows Mel Murdock as he walks to the back of the meeting room to talk privately on his cellular phone.

INTERCUT BETWEEN MEL MURDOCK AND CURT DAVIS

MEL MURDOCK

Hello, Mr. Davis. It’s very important that I speak with you.

CURT DAVIS

If it’s about the subpoena our lawyers are already working on it.

MEL MURDOCK

Everyone in the entire sales team including myself are all being indicted for fraud. This is serious.

CURT DAVIS

Our legal experts are in the process of changing the name of our time share organization. Because our business is registered and located in George Town in the Cayman Islands the limited partners of the company are virtually untouchable.

MEL MURDOCK

What do you think will happen to the rest of us who have been subpoenaed to appear in court?

Scene#13

Continued

CURT DAVIS

Well, for one thing there will be some stiff fines levied against any salesman who are convicted of the charges filed against them. Unfortunately, you might not be so lucky when all of this plays out.

MEL MURDOCK

Me? Why?

CURT DAVIS

As the sales manager you are directly responsible for the everyday operations of the business. Mel, you’re probably looking at up to five year’s jail time. Maybe less if you’re paroled early on good behavior.

MEL MURDOCK

But I’m too old to go to jail.

CURT DAVIS

You’re never too old to go to jail. I’ll have an attorney contact you and he’ll start working on your defense.

MEL MURDOCK

My defense?

CURT DAVIS

Somebody has to take the fall.

Mel Murdock squints his eyes and lifts the hair off his forehead. He then grimaces in pain and massages the area around his heart.

MEL MURDOCK

Curt, I can’t take the stress! I can’t go to prison! Oh, I just got a sharp pain in chest. I think I’m having a heart attack!

What about the court date? It looks like were all not going to be able to report to spring training on time.

MEL MURDOCK

There was a man you might have seen who just left here. That was my lawyer. I have already made arrangements to have this suit settled out of court. I will pay all the money back to anyone who feels they got a raw deal.
