|Job Title: Care & Support Officer |Reports to: Care & Support Manager |

|Location: Edinburgh with travel throughout the Lothians |Date: January 2020 |

|Hours: 35 hours per week. Hours and days flexible to include regular evening and weekend work. |

|Salary: NJC Scale 5 (£22,623 – 24,698) per annum |

JOB PURPOSE

| |

|To be responsible for the delivery of key projects and services within the organisation including being project leader for: |

|A Basecamp2 project |

|A Saturday Adventure Team |

|A Holiday Activity Programmes |

ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE

| |

|Reports to the Care & Support Manager but will have a close working relationship with other staff in the organisation to |

|ensure the smooth and safe delivery of organisational services, projects and activities. |

|Line management responsibility for certain project workers, sessional staff and volunteers. |

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

| |

|To lead in the delivery of high quality, effective services to children and young people with autism, their families and |

|carers supported by the organisation |

|To undertake all necessary key tasks in support of the day to day operation of the clubs, groups and recreational activities, |

|working alongside sessional staff |

|Development of outreach activities and events, raising awareness, giving talks and presentations as required |

|Deliver training sessions in a variety of topics with support from C&S Manager |

|To shape and develop projects with C&S Manager across local authority areas, attending to all operational aspects |

|To sustain and develop local partnerships and joint working between groups, community agencies, to maximise the impact of |

|existing and new groups and clubs. |

|To promote and maximise positive outcomes for children and young people with additional support needs and their families, in |

|line with GIRFEC principles |

|To ensure that planning, recording, reporting and evaluation mechanisms are in place for all services and projects and support|

|fundraising activity in gathering relevant case studies/cases for support |

|Recruit support workers and volunteers for projects and services |

|Ensure the completion and submission of all annual returns to the Care Inspectorate and other stakeholders as appropriate |

|under the direction of the Care & Support Manager |

|To act as a role model for staff and sessional/project workers in relation to child-centred practice and personal / |

|professional values |

|Oversee the training for all staff and volunteers particularly in child protection and health & safety |

|To ensure effective evaluation of all services with a strong emphasis on measuring outcomes. This will involve liaising with |

|parents and carers of children and young people, schools and other organisations using LAS services |

AUTHORITIES AND LIMITATIONS

|The post holder will have direct line management responsibility for certain project workers, sessional staff and volunteers. |

PERSON SPECIFICATION: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS,

|Role will require qualifications which are recognised with the Care Inspectorate and SSSC in respect of Day Care of Children |

|services and/or other registrations which may be required or a willingness to work towards required qualifications |

|Able to work across Lothians, working evenings and weekends |

|Experience of working within a team environment and supporting and managing play work staff and volunteers |

|A minimum of two years’ experience working with children and young people, preferably with autism and/or disabilities |

|Excellent communication and organisational skills |

|Ability to work flexible hours in line with service requirements which will include evenings and weekends. |

|Essential to be available during school holiday periods when the Holiday Activity Programme is delivered. |

|Experience of delivering small projects and all associated administration. |

|Knowledge of disability and Additional Support Needs |

|Demonstrable experience in planning, designing and implementing services within given budgets |

|Leadership skills and team building skills |

|Proficient in MS Office, including MS Word, MS Excel and databases |

|Confidence and competence in engaging with a variety of staff |

|Full and clean driving licence and access to own car. Those without a car will need to demonstrate how they can meet the |

|demands of the role using public transport as this will include travel across Lothians |
