|TEACHING/LEARNING ACTIVITIES |
|Introduction |
|Recap on circle time rules of class e.g. listening to each other, thinking, looking, concentrating. Class to sit in circle, say their name and touch the |
|person next to them on their hand. They in turn say their name around the circle. Using feelings fan, teacher chooses a feelings word e.g. ‘happy’. In pairs |
|children finish the sentence ‘I am happy when…..’ Teacher chooses another word e.g. ‘afraid’. Children in pairs finish the sentence ‘I am afraid when…’ |
|MAIN TEACHING AND LEARNING |

|The teacher tells the class that they are going to learn a new word ‘proud’ and when and how they might use it when they talk about their friends or their |
|family. They are also going to learn that they can use the word about themselves. Another word they will learn is ‘jealous’. Teacher to elicit whether |
|children know/have heard of these words and when they might use them. Talk about Cinderella and ugly sisters. |
|Use the photocards ‘proud’ and ‘jealous’ from the whole-school resource file to explore the feelings, using the questions on the back of the cards as a |
|framework (powerpoint available ‘jealous/proud in resource section). In small groups discuss 1 of the photo cards and decide which of the words could be used |
|and why. Groups report back to rest of class. Does everyone agree? |

|Activity 2 |
|Ask children to think of themselves. What are they proud of that they can do? In the circle each child can choose to say ‘I am proud of myself because…….’ |

|Now think of a friend or someone in their family. What might you be proud of them for? Teacher to give some examples. What are they proud of? What could |
|they say? ‘I am proud of…… because…..’ Ask for some examples. |

|Sometimes we are not proud. Sometimes we might feel ‘jealous’ What might we be jealous of? Give an example – jealous of how much time mum spends with new |
|baby, no time for you. |

|PLENARY |
|In circle, teacher to call each child by name, give them a sticker and say ‘We are proud of ….. today because he/she has listened/spoken/taken turns/ joined in|
|well’. Children to repeat and clap each other. |
