Brand Expansion in India

Hospitality design leaders complete 45 projects

with 20 in pipeline

(Hong Kong, July 13, 2012) – Hospitality interior design leader HBA is at the forefront of expansion into India by the world’s top hotel brands.

Since styling the Juhu Beach Marriott and Grand Hyatt Mumbai in 1997, HBA has tailored new properties in India for internationally renowned hospitality nameplates including Four Seasons, Hyatt, JW Marriott, Sheraton, Shangri-La and Taj.

HBA’s 45th latest completed project in India, Park Hyatt Hyderabad, underlines the group’s ongoing commitment to the region. With a dedicated HBA office in India, over 20 new projects are now on the drawing board, scheduled to open over the next few years.

Scaling design heights to bring top of the line luxury to an emerging location, Park Hyatt Hyderabad is the first city Park Hyatt hotel in India.

Inspired by local surroundings, HBA has created an atmosphere of understated elegance amid the welcoming warmth of a personal residence. Designers have spent time getting acquainted with the environment visiting local museums, viewing historical architecture and studying local culture and fashion. The result translates into Indian colours, patterns and fabrics throughout.

Silk accents and vibrant colours influenced by Indian saris also permeate through the property that includes 185 guestrooms and 24 Suites, plus 42 serviced apartments.

Clad in natural Madurai granite, the façade is clean and modern with expansive glass doors and windows, and shimmering steel mesh ceiling fixtures giving the entrance a chandelier effect. The lobby is designed with sparkling water features and plants surrounding a signature 35-foot white abstract sculpture.

“The most distinguishable design feature is the open atrium with an enormous amount of light but an intimate ambience because of its cocooning affect,” said HBA Atlanta’s Senior Associate, Greg Bates.

In soft, neutral earthy tones, revolutionary styling includes opulent, spa-inspired bathrooms. Restaurants are designed with interactive show kitchens. Signature restaurant Tre-Forni is in muted earth tones with dark polished hardwood floors, and Italianate tiles.

In creamy lavender, lilac, pink and amber, the 10,000 square foot spa features an outdoor swimming pool with sweeping views of the Banjara Hills. Treatment rooms have customized counters cut from whole logs topped with bronze decorative sinks.

The hotel is the first in India to offer Hyatt's unique residential-style multi-function facility The Meeting Residence providing a welcoming home-style ambience.

Another newly-completed India property, Kempinski New Delhi, is in the up and coming area of Shahdara, and is distinguished by the biggest convention centre in North India, at 2,000 sqm.

HBA “wanted to bring something different to the area” with the 480-room Kempinski Ambience property and opted for a “contemporary transitional fashion with subtle touches of re-interpreted Indian elements” – including patterns and architectural detailing sometimes used in unexpected areas, said David T’kint, Associate at HBA Singapore.

In addition, the main facade pattern was also mirrored in some interior features to create a link between the outside and inside. Interiors are sophisticated and calm; a mix of warm beiges and browns enhanced by rich Indian colour tones such as indigo blue, saffron yellow and bright red. An art collection showcasing mostly contemporary Indian artists is another highlight of the interiors.

Among five F&B outlets are an Indian restaurant, pan-Asian restaurant and sophisticated yet casual Italian trattoria, along with a hip bar and all-day-dining venue. On both sides of the building are swimming pools, with fitness room and changing area, each connecting to a luxury spa with a beauty salon catering for weddings.

While guest rooms are similarly designed, each side of the property has specific types - slightly more luxurious in the smaller tower, which also houses an executive lounge. The property also features luxury suites, with a studio-type open layout.
