Flipchart Page 1: Question of the Day: When students enter the classroom each morning, they begin the day by signing in on the Question of the Day. Students write their first name using the active pen under their response to today’s question. For example: Have you ever flown a kite? Do you like broccoli? Are you wearing a belt? The answers are compiled for data analysis, as kids make tally marks and write the total number of responses. Flipchart Page 2: Calendar: Kindergarten morning meetings begin with a calendar activity. This flipchart page has a March Calendar that is used to discuss the months of the year and the days of the week. Clicking on the title, Months of the Year brings up an MP3 song file for the songs Macarena Months and the Days of the week. The children sing along, doing motions and interactions as they learn calendar routines. Using an interactive pen, students choose a picture of either an Easter egg or a rabbit to make a pattern for the calendar days. Discussions will include today’s day and what day was yesterday and what day will tomorrow be. Flipchart Page 3: Weather Chart: Clicking on a title brings up an MB3 file for the song, What will the weather be today? Students then use the activ pen to highlight the weather- windy, snowy, sunny, rainy, etc. Flip Chart Page 4: How many days have we been in school? Using the activ pen, a tally mark is made to count the number of days students have been in school. On the place value chart kids move blocks to represent how many hundreds, tens, and ones equal the number of days school has been in session. In the money box, students write the value equal to what it’s worth. For example, if school had been in session for 118 days, students would write $1.18 and select a dollar, dime, nickel, and eight pennies to equal 118 days. Flip Chart Page 5: Morning Message: This page has a note written to students that contains a message such as: Dear Kindergarten Smarties: Today is _onday, _arch _, 200_ . Let’s make a word web for our vocabulary word glimmer. What things glimmer? Happy Learning! Love, your teachers, Mrs. Bowland and Mrs. Flint. Students will use the activ pen to write the missing letters or words in the morning message. Flip Chart Page 6: Today’s Helper: This page shows and Easter bunny with a basket of eggs.
