QUESTION 7
Read the following CASE STUDY and answer the questions that follow.
How acts of kindness can have a ripple effect.
When Tom first got married, he suggested to his new bride, Martha, that every year at Christmas, they should give a gift to someone anonymously. They felt that that is the true meaning of Christmas.
Martha had a friend that she had grown close to over time. One year, just before Christmas, her friend, who has two children, lost her job and had very little savings and nowhere to turn for help. Martha and Tom felt they needed to help but should do it anonymously. They bought a gift voucher from a local food store and posted it to her with no return address. They asked a friend to write the address on the envelope so she wouldn't recognize the handwriting. They posted it from another town so the postal stamp was unknown.
Four years later, also at Christmas time, Martha decided to tell her friend who the gift was from. When she did, her friend just smiled and said from that Christmas on, she had been helping others who are in need every Christmas.
It just goes to show you how a little act of kindness can have a big ripple effect.
