For this project, you will analyze themes in popular music, correlate them to concerns challenging today’s adolescents, and identify how music plays a role in socialization. From the list provided, select a genre of music such as country, Christian, classic rock, or music from a particular era in time, such as the 40s, or the 80s, or music from a particular culture/counter culture. Be ready to translate if you choose a genre in a foreign language.Although two students may be analyzing the same genre, this is independent work. Also, study a variety of artists; do NOT limit yourself to one artist or one album.Generate a list of ten songs popular in the genre. This may be your list, or from a “Top 10” type list. Listen to the songs and/or read the lyrics. Make a copy of the lyrics for two of the songs on your plete the Themes in Popular Music chart. Identify the primary theme and the secondary theme for each song.Write the key words or phrases. These are the words and phrases that are repeated often and/or loudly, throughout the song, and often carry the message (primary theme).
