QUESTION

What do you want for your prom? You are in charge of your prom this year. There are many things that you need to do to prepare for it. What will you serve? Who will entertain? How much will everything cost? What will be the theme? What will the decorations look like? You are in charge of putting together a proposal for the best prom ever.

PLAN

You will have until April 1st to complete this project. You will present your proposal and submit it for evaluation to the prom committee. Your presentation will be a multimedia approach. After all presentations are completed there will be a vote taken and the top three will be presented to the prom committee.

PROJECT

Begin by filling out a KWHL chart to brainstorm all the aspects of the planning of the prom. Things will come up along the way and you can add to the organizer.

Find a place to have the prom. Use a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the different sites and costs.

Determine your entertainment options and conduct interviews with various entertainment facilities. Design your own interview questions. Determine your food options catering? Will food be supplied by site? You decide.

Don’t forget tickets, decorations, theme etc… I am leaving the rest up to you. Video clips of group sessions would be a great part of the presentation. For each topic planned you will need a report which will be included in your proposal that includes information about the particular planning topic and how you came to the conclusion and decisions you did.

Following are some web sites that may help you.

SCHEDULE

The following is a timeline that needs to be followed. It is a guide to keep you on target.

September – Budget for prom and plan fundraisers to cover cost of prom.

October – Place and Date of Prom determined./Theme should be chosen.

November - Entertainment decision made/Decorations

December - Menu planned and Figure out where food is coming from.

January – Tickets designed and printed through choice of company.

February - Chaperones need to be set up

March – last minute clean up things

The following web site will help you organize the timeline

ASSESSMENT

You will turn in a proposal which will include all topics discussed in your group and decisions made. You are to gather all information on each topic from at least three different sources and analyze the information gathered in order to make the best decision. You will turn in your proposal and present your proposal. Presentations will begin in April. Students will vote on the three best proposals and it will go before the prom planning committee. Your grade will be based on a score from a rubric.
