Oh The Places You Will Go…

Oh The Places You Will Go…

You have 10 days of vacation and decide to take a car trip around the United States.

o You can drive no more than 10 hours per day.

o Your trip must start and end in the same state. (it does not have to be Missouri!)

o You may not visit a state more than once.

o You must exit a state at a different border than you entered it from. For example, if you entered a state from the North, you must exit from the South, West or East.

o At the end of each 10-hour period you must spend the night (14 hours) in a town or city whose name contains the letter “e.”

Using the map, mark your daily route, including the number of miles driven, and mark the town or city that you spent the night in.

Roles:

o Itinerary Planner- You will have to work closely with the other roles to make sure your trip fits the driving criteria, the postcards get done and the map is drawn correctly.

o The itinerary must be detailed including times you are leaving, stopping and how long you will stay at each attraction.

o The itinerary planner should also keep track of the budget including cost of attraction, cost of hotel and cost of gas

o Driver- this person will be in charge of keeping track of hours on the road.

o The driver must keep track of hours traveled

o The driver will also keep track of miles driven.

o Navigator- this person will be in charge of keeping track of the trip on the map.

o The map must include all routes that you take

o The map should include each city, marked accurately

o Postcard writer- this person will be in charge of creating postcards of the cities or towns that your group visits.

o The postcard must have a picture of the attraction that you visited

o The postcard must have a note to a friend about the attraction.

Timeline:

Day 1: All group members will work together to choose the start and ending point. You will begin to research different cities and towns and attractions that would be interesting for you to visit.

Day 2: You will continue to research places to visit. By now, you should be calculating how far you can make it in your 10-hour drive time. If you have decided on your first destination, the post card writer can begin to send postcards.

Day 3: The first cities should be chosen and the post card writer should begin. The Driver should be able to start calculating miles and drive times. The Navigator can begin to plot cities on the map. The Itinerary Planner should be staying in close communication with the other group members to be sure the itinerary matches the map, drive and postcards.

Day 4: This day should look very similar to Day 3. Continue to work together to choose your route.

Dear Friend,

We just started our road trip and already we are having a great time. After the zoo, we stopped at the Gateway Arch. The Arch sits right next to the river and overlooks all of Downtown St. Louis. We walked through the Museum of National Expansion and read about the history of the United States. The coolest part about the Arch was traveling to the top. There are windows that look out to the city and you can feel the Arch sway in the wind. It was really awesome. We are moving on to the World’s Largest Catsup Bottle next.

See you soon!

Mrs. Stutzer
