Better retirement preparation for all, streamlined and efficient Vendors are changing too: they established open architecture so vendors can record-keep funds from other vendorsSeeking to offer fewer funds with all major asset classes with 1 to 3 options each Organized by type of fund and level of engagement: allocation tier, passive tierPlan has been reviewed by a number of committees and Boards, including University SenatePlan Fundamentals do not change (employee contributions, vendors, policies) When? Transition begins late this year/early next year Options will be offered to preview and transition your funds; users can proactively select where to invest. You can map it yourself or change nothing for automated change You can change this at least annually w/Benefits Review: depends on your vendor and their rules to enact changes periodically. Dr. Carol Henderson: VP Diversity & Inclusion, Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) Hails from South Central Los Angeles, CA, Full professor in English and African Studies.Dr. Henderson invites us, the Employee Council, to find ways to collaborate to foster a spirit of diversity and inclusion. Employee Council is the voice of employees, and we must fully represent those not in the room and especially their concerns. The Diversity Inclusion message begins with onboarding. Do we have a standard for Diversity on the Emory campus? What does inclusion mean? Status is interesting here, at Emory and in the South.Employee Council can help with this: what’s our protocol, what are our values, knowing we all play a role (faculty, students, and staff)? Employee Council’s purpose, mission, and SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis. How will our initiatives align with what we identify w/equity and diversity? Culture, climate, and more will require reframing. Inclusion? Where might this factor in? Inclusion = self-reflection. Professional development is enabling and enlightening on a number of levels: must be available to all. Mandatory leadership training for all leadership/mgmt. positions? Distinctive separation w/faculty and staff: this is sensitive and long lived. Knowledge makes you accountable. Melody notes that Human Resources has begun to formalize a leadership training for new hires and newly promoted people managers. Leadership must be held responsible and feel responsible for anyone in their space. What about non-leadership? Don’t we all need this professional development? Yes. Goals are being formulated with each of the professional schools. Should be a multicultural competency class for all students; not yet but conversation has begun. It’s conversations & events, giving airtime for everyone. Carol Henderson seeks a grass roots campaign to grow gently. Thinking of surveys held in the past and Employee Council might consider having a Diversity Committee? (to make recommendations of education, professional development, etc.) We should note: Top 3 Issues: create short list and prioritize the ones that relate to employee wellbeing. Signature Events that reflect principles: our 50th Anniversary is too important to miss! Do we have an Awards committee? How do we acknowledge and/or reward of others? What does the 2020 vision look like? For those who don’t want to change: “Let them be”. Align with those that do want to change.Report from John Bence: Senate UpdateRetirement update was presented at the Senate by Theresa Milazzo CEPAR Critical Event, Preparedness and Response: presented on locking mechanisms for classrooms (benchmarking w/peers). Sid Stein updated with Fringe Benefits report: there was an idea that didn’t happen (6% matching might go towards student debt, but no traction was at hand). Sid also noted Emory is behind on childcare benefits and we need to step this up with leave, subsidies, etc. Other NewsStudent Well-Being Survey results will be released tomorrow. November meeting: our Oxford visit (typically in May), we are joining Oxford employees for Thanksgiving lunch along with a tour. Not a formal event but we can get a table for conversations. 10:30 – 11, return @1:30, Thursday 11/14.Thank You: to Denise Holliday, Paul Ficklin-Alred and Dawn Francis-Chewning representing the Employee Council at the Campus Safety Fair. ................
