Overview of application process for joining the

Private Client Section advisory committee

The Private Client Section advisory committee work with the Law Society to provide support to our Section members; we currently have up to five vacancies for new committee members.

We are looking to appoint committed exceptional private client solicitors working in areas such as wills, probate, estate and tax planning, trusts and mental capacity, etc. to become committee members. If you would like to apply, we'd love to hear from you.

You will have skills, experience, connections, enthusiasm and knowledge of your particular area.

In exchange you will:

• gain the opportunity to secure early insight into emerging legislation in which you can input

• help develop content for our publications and plans for our events

• know your participation has made a real difference to private client practitioners in England and Wales

• receive free membership of the Private Client Section for your term on the committee

• receive free entry to the Private Client Section Annual conference plus dinner and overnight accommodation for the proceeding night

• have all your travel costs spent on Private Client Section business refunded*

The time commitment is anticipated to be no more than five days a year for committee meetings plus a day for the annual conference with the addition of occasional input via conference calls on smaller projects. Appointments are for three years, with potential for this to extend.

The Law Society values and promotes diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity. Applications are particularly welcomed from solicitors with the profiles described below as these are under represented on the committee:

• solicitors from minority ethnic backgrounds

• solicitors with less than 5 years post qualifying experience

• solicitors based in Wales

• solicitors with expertise of working with clients from non-Christian religions

• solicitors with expertise of working with clients from/in Wales

• solicitors working in City firms or charities

• solicitors working with digital assets, technology, vulnerable clients, the Care Act, DoLs. APR/BPR, International tax and UK domicile clients with foreign assets.

Schedule for recruitment

The schedule for recruitment is as follows:

1) Please complete the attached application form and email it to PrivateClientSection@.uk by the closing date of midnight on Sunday 15 September 2019. (Handwritten applications will not be accepted – please complete in MS Word or a similar application).

2) During September we will review and score the applications.

3) During October we will contact all candidates to advise if we wish to invite you for an interview (telephone or face to face). The interview will include members of the Private Client Section advisory committee and Law Society staff.

4) Our aim is to have all vacancies filled and new committee members in place for the 1 Nov 2019.
