With affiliate marketing, you use special affiliate links to refer people to merchant websites. When your referral buys something there, you earn a commission.

3.) WHAT IS A NICHE MARKET?

Success in affiliate marketing is strongly tied to picking a profitable niche market to focus on. A niche market is nothing more than a group of people interested in a particular thing.

A niche market exists for just about anything you can imagine. You yourself belong to many niche markets related to everything you are interested in at this point in your life.

Find a niche market that you feel motivated to serve, and you are in business.

4.) The 7 Profitable Niche Categories

The 659 niche markets listed later in this book are organized into 7 categories. These categories are time-tested and proven to be profitable. It can be helpful to think in terms of the category that would be the best fit for you, before picking an actual niche market to enter. This will help you to narrow down your choices when reviewing the full list of 659.

Some niche markets could fit into more than one category. In those cases I tried to pick the one that is the most dominant aspect of the market. If you prefer to explore a different angle to a niche, feel free to do so. The goal of the categories and list is to spark your inner creativity and lateral thinking processes.

Keep in mind that you don't need to be an expert in the niche. You can research and learn more about the topics that resonate with you. The upcoming section on The Teacher Business Model will discuss this in more detail.

Here is a summary of the 7 niche categories:

1. Money - This is an extremely profitable niche category. It includes everything from making money, to managing money, to insuring against losses. Anything that can have an impact on a person's financial situation is sure to have a hungry crowd searching for solutions.

These niches tend to have some of the highest paying affiliate programs around.

My most profitable blog of all time was in an investing niche. These niches also tend to be the most crowded and competitive. If you are just starting out, the money niche markets may be better left as something to aspire to, once you develop your Digital Age skills inventory.

2. Health - Everyone in the world struggles with health issues. If you think you can help them out, this may be the niche category for you. The number of affiliate products you can promote in the health niche is staggering. Repeat business is almost a given (assuming you follow all the right steps to build your email list, as outlined in PURR).
