American Heart Month:

National Organization Offers Support at a Local Level

(INSERT CITY, STATE) – (INSERT DATE) – Heart disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women. To increase awareness of its effects on patients, families and caregivers, The Mended Hearts, Inc. is proudly participating in American Heart month during February. Over the next few weeks Mended Hearts chapters across the country will be virtually hosting events in their communities to recognize the strength and resilience of heart families and to raise awareness of heart disease.

As the largest cardiovascular peer-to-peer support network in the world Mended Hearts works at a national and local level to raise awareness of this terrible disease and to lend support to the families that are affected.

Throughout the year, Mended Heart chapters work closely with their local hospitals and medical partners to support families. We work directly with 300 of the nation’s top hospitals, catheterization labs and rehabilitation clinics to help heart event survivors experience a positive patient-care experience. Our visiting programs provide support to families in the hospital when they need it the most, and our online digital resource, the Mended HeartGuide (), is instrumental in providing needed resources to families. We also publish a quarterly magazine, Heartbeat, () that provides members with up-to-date information about heart-related health conditions and personal patient stories.

“Despite the challenges the past year has brought chapters trying to support patients in the hospital, Mended Hearts volunteers have risen to the challenge and found alternative ways to support and educate patients and families,” said Andrea Baer, executive director for the Mended Hearts, Inc. We know that nothing can replace the in-person, peer-to-peer connection that Mended Hearts provides to heart patients, but during 2020 volunteers learned to support those in need over the phone, through email, through text and live chat. Our organization has built a care support network that helps heart patients and families move towards healing and have hope for a brighter future.” (ADD YOUR OWN QUOTE HERE ABOUT THE SUPPORT YOUR CHAPTER PROVIDES.)
