| TAHU CAFÉ` |An informative State internet forum where agents can ask questions or silently observe questions and answers |

| |given by other agents to just about anything related to healthcare or insurance. To subscribe to the café, |

| |go to . One note: the café will generate 5-25 emails a day, so set up a separate folder for |

| |them to go into or just be prepared for the volume. |

| | |

| TAHUPAC |Texas Political Action Committee. Donations to the fund can only be made by individuals, not associations. |

| |Funds are given to candidates running for state offices, usually state representative and state senators to |

| |the Texas Legislature, but can be given to any candidate for a Texas state office. The TAHUPAC board members|

| |make decisions as to whom is given the funds, any TAHU member can nominate a worthy recipient, either an |

| |incumbent or new candidate for office. |

| | |

| LEG FUND |Funds salaries and expenses for TAHU Lobbying efforts. Donations to the fund can be made by individuals and |

| |Association chapters, as this is NOT a PAC. Since dues were raised in 2002, and a certain portion of these |

| |dues were earmarked for lobbying efforts, TAHU recommends that individuals now designate the PAC funds for |

| |their donations. However, it is still retained for donations that may be given by chapters, as chapters |

| |cannot donate to PACs. |

| | |

| HUPAC |Health Underwriters Political Action Committee. Donations to the fund can only be made by individuals, not |

| |associations. Funds are given to candidates running for Federal offices, usually federal representatives to |

| |the U.S. House of Representatives, federal senators to the United States Senate, and the President. The |

| |HUPAC board members make decisions as to whom is given the funds, any NAHU member can nominate a worthy |

| |recipient, either an incumbent or new candidate for office. |

| | |

| HIU Magazine |Health Insurance Underwriter Magazine. Published by NAHU, this magazine has tremendous industry articles, |

| |legislative actions, and current events information as it pertains to our organization. This magazine is |

| |included for free in your dues. |

| | |

| Capitol Conference |Each year NAHU members gather in Washington, DC to discuss legislative goals and meet with members of |

| |Congress. Powerful speakers from our government, and informative sessions regarding our industry and federal |

| |impact. All members are encouraged to attend. |

| | |

| Day at the Capitol |Once a year, TAHU hosts a “Day at the Capitol” with our legislators in Austin (every other year) and around |

| |the state on off-legislature years for our members in January or February. The meeting held in the off-year |

| |is held to discuss and brainstorm issues and potential bills that TAHU may write, co-write, or sponsor, and |

| |noteworthy speakers come to discuss these issues with our members. During the year the Legislature is in |

| |session, members meet with legislators to discuss any bills that have been filed that pertain to our |

| |industry. The morning session outlines these bills, and talking points on the bills are available for help |

| |with these personal meetings. TAHU’s impact on the state legislature and our industry starts here. |

| Regional Leadership |We are part of Region VI. Each year the regions host a meeting at one of the chapter’s locations to provide |

|Conference |training for your association leaders and board members. All members are welcome to attend. |

| | |

| State Convention |Texas has a convention or symposium every year somewhere in Texas. There are usually numerous hours of CE |

| |given, and lots of time to meet with exhibitors (carriers) who have booths, and receive training for board |

| |members. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend. |

| | |

| National Convention |Every year NAHU has their convention. Similar in nature to the state convention, except on a much grander |

| |scale. Here is also where the individual, chapter, state and regional awards are handed out, and also where |

| |assigned delegates from each chapter conduct NAHU business and pass resolutions. |

| | |

| Triple Crown |A new award that everyone can and should strive to achieve. It shows an overall involvement in your |

| |association and to win you need to recruit 2 new members, do 3 Operation Shout’s of different subjects, and |

| |support HUPAC with a donation of at least $10 / month for 12 mos.(10x12) or $150 donation. |

| | |

| Operation Shout |This is an online opportunity for members to connect with your public officials online and advocate your |

| |industry’s concerns. You can register on and once you are registered, you receive timed emails |

| |when a critical vote is coming up and the program automatically selects YOUR officials and sends a preprinted|

| |post to them on your behalf. Of course, if you prefer to write in your own words, or if you have a different|

| |position than the one provided by NAHU, you have all the flexibility to change the message to be what you |

| |want to say. Completing an operation shout takes less than a minute or two and does tremendous good things –|

| |since your legislators only know what they hear from their constituents and lobbyists. |

| | |

| YODA |Your On-Line Database Access. YODA is where you update your contact information for NAHU, and where your |

| |leadership team keeps track of membership additions, deletions, changes, renewals, etc. |

| | |

| SAAHU Symposium |Every year, SAAHU hosts an education day or symposium. This is an all day CE event, with breaks to visit |

| |numerous exhibitors’ booths. Usually the programs are designed to appeal to your clients so if you want to |

| |invite them, it benefits both of you. We typically hold this event in February. |

| | |

| SAAHU Casino Night |Casino Night is one of our Charity events. One evening we gather to gamble (chips) with real tables and |

| |dealers, there is a silent auction, prizes, food and it’s a ton of fun. usually held in May, it attracts |

| |members, spouses, and friends alike. All proceeds support a charity, selected by the board each year. |

| | |

| SAAHU Golf |This is our biggest charity event. Usually held in September or October, this tournament is one of the |

|Tournament |biggest in the city. There is lunch, a golf scramble, dinner, and a silent auction. All proceeds benefit a |

| |charity and you don’t have to be a “golfer” to play. |

C. E. and Ethics C.E. Requirements: (List your own State Insurance Requirement for Number of C.E. Hours and Ethics C.E. Requirement for License Renewal)

We’ve Got the Power –

Let’s Turn It On!

Each session, hundreds of lawmakers are making decisions that will affect each one of us. Legislation will be considered that they may or may not have a full understanding of the impact their decision will have upon consumers. Our industry needs a voice, and we have one! We have one in the form of national and state level lobbyists who ensure that position is heard. And each one of us has a voice that can be heard both on Capitol Hill and in our local districts. And we will show you how to use that voice!

Here are some ways that the _________ Association made a difference during the last legislative session:

▪ (These are samples – review your own State Legislative Agenda and put your own State information here)

▪ Some relief was salvaged in the state plan that provides group insurance for teachers and employees;

▪ Privacy bills now provide agent exemptions

▪ A _AHU written bill, now law, mandates that commissions for small employer groups may not be discriminatory with regard to size.

▪ Rules for setting premiums on small employer groups are now clear and concise and no longer have loopholes thanks to a bill written by _AHU and now law;

▪ The Governor vetoed the bill relating to prompt payment of claims by health care benefit plans.

_AHU is pleased to have our own lobbyists, (Name(s), who are employed as lobbyists only for _AHU. They have no other clients. (Name(s) have extensive experience as agents and can clearly state the opinions and positions of our industry.

(Give Lobbyists’ background and reputation with legislators in your state)

_AHU has an impact on (State Capitol)!!! This is the power of the Health Underwriters. As a member, you will receive frequent updates from (name of Lobbyist) on state legislative issues as well as national updates from NAHU coming out of Washington D.C.

NAHU’s Annual Capitol Conference

Each year members of the National Association of Health Underwriters and of the _____ Associations converge on Washington, D.C. to ‘Storm The Hill’. After briefings, NAHU’s members move to the “Hill” for meetings with their Congressmen and Senators. This is an active grassroots effort from NAHU members around the country. As leaders in the health care industry, we must always be on our guard for any misguided “incremental health care reform” that results in interference in the free market economy in health care industry. Our collective voices need to remain strong to win. Your clients’ future depends on it. Your future depends on it.

Spend two days on Capitol Hill meeting with members of Congress and senior Hill staffers to discuss NAHU’s vision for a vibrant health care system that ensures affordable choice for the American people - not government control! Capitol Conference is usually held in February in Washington, DC.

_AHU’s Annual Day at The Capitol

Just as in NAHU’s Capitol Conference, the ________ Association sponsors their own ‘storming of the capitol’ in Austin each year. A widely exciting and successful event, it provides an awesome feeling to attend and realize what a difference we make when we talk to our representatives one-on-one. The Day at the Capitol is a one-day event with briefings conducted during a morning session and meetings with legislators scheduled during the afternoon. This is your opportunity to get your message to your lawmakers who make the laws so they understand our industry and the impact of their laws on it and our clients.

If you do nothing else with the association, this is a ‘do not miss’ event.

What is HUPAC?

HUPAC Bylaws

HUPAC is NAHU's political action committee. It is the expression of our First Amendment rights to free speech and association guaranteed under the Constitution. Such political expression has become far more than a useful option for professionals in a heavily regulated business like the health insurance industry. It has become a necessity.

HUPAC is registered with the U.S. Federal Election Commission. Since NAHU and similar organizations are prohibited from making political contributions, HUPAC was created to allow contributors to combine their financial support to a candidate to achieve maximum effect.

Why is HUPAC necessary?

Few other industries are as heavily regulated as health insurance. Therefore, your success, and that of your clients, is directly dependent upon the actions of Congress. It is absolutely critical that we help those members who are willing to consider our point of view in support of private sector health insurance.

To whom does HUPAC contribute?

HUPAC contributes to majority and minority party candidates, incumbents and challengers alike. Because it is non-partisan, it does not represent the interests of any political party.

Who can contribute to HUPAC?

Only NAHU members, their families and staff can contribute to HUPAC.

Clients of NAHU members may not contribute to HUPAC. All donations must be made by individuals--FEC regulations prohibit PAC contributions by corporations or companies.

How does HUPAC decide on contributions?

Decisions are made by vote of the HUPAC Board of Trustees, appointed by the NAHU president. Candidates for HUPAC contributions are evaluated on a variety of factors, including: recommendations from NAHU members; support of NAHU policies; accessibility to our members; willingness to learn; and congressional committee and political party responsibilities; among others.

Can HUPAC make contributions to candidates for state office?

Yes and no. In July, 2003, HUPAC's Board of Trustees approved a policy change to contribute to candidates for state governors' and elected insurance commissioners' races. HUPAC does not participate in any other state-based races. State association PACs, however, may contribute to other state candidates. If your state association is interested in starting a state PAC, please contact us.

As a member of the ________ Association of Health Underwriters, you will be invited to attend annual symposiums on the National, State and Local levels. Each year, the National Association of Health Underwriters sponsors a Symposium in one of the major market areas. _____ holds its symposium typically in _________.

From the opening sessions through the closing, hundreds of insurance professionals attending are extremely busy listening to top-flight general session speakers and participating in break-out sessions on areas of particular interest. Opportunities to obtain Continuing Education credits abound!

Award banquets and dinners are held to reward outstanding individuals and chapters. During recent years the ________ Chapter has been awarded various state awards, including chapter of the year, chapter public service award, education, newsletter and legislation merit awards.

To make sure that our agents are up-to-date with the latest products and services, approximately seventy-five to one hundred exhibitors representing insurance industry products as well as ancillary business are at symposium.

The State Symposium is usually held at the end of April each year. In addition to insurance business and continuing education courses, there will be opportunities to join your peers for fun and relaxation. At the conclusion of the event is the Hollis Roberson Dinner with presentation of _AHU Awards.

The National Convention & Exhibition is held in a different city each year, usually during June. It is guaranteed to be fun and a highly informative event.

The State and National events illustrate the value each person’s membership brings to the table. To see the cumulative efforts of each city and each state come together to make change (or prevent change) is an incredible experience. To learn what is happening in other states, what is being done, and meet others you may have a chance to network with (or learn from) is truly a rewarding time. Attendance at these events is open to the entire membership.
