ROAD TO SUCCESS ACADEMY THEMATIC INTERDISCIPLINARY PROJECT-BASED UNITSection 1 - IntroductionTHEMEMETAMORPHOSISSubject/CourseCTETeacher(s)DeavilleTimeframeMarch 6, 2017 - May 25, 2017Overview (narrative (one paragraph) description of your entire unit)Social Emotional Focus: Our goal is to guide the students toward an understanding that challenges can create positive personal change and that young people can and must make the world a better place for the 21st Century universal community. In this unit, students will explore the theme of Metamorphosis through…ELA/ defines metamorphosis as “a profound change in form from one stage to the next in the life history of an organism.” Profound changes can occur in the “life” of political, economic and governmental systems as well as within us. This change can be at our hands, or totally out of our control. The question is not “who” is to blame, but is “how” will we rise to the occasion: Students will explore the fundamental changes that occurred as a result of major events in the United States and the world during the 1930’s and 1940’s.Math/ScienceIn Science, students will examine the natural and man-made factors that caused the catastrophic conditions in the Dust Bowl and the characteristics of the earth that influence weather and seasons. In Math, students will examine basic math and linear algebra concepts that will help them analyze stock market data.CTE Students explore the changing demands of the housing market/construction industry (current and past) and how contractors respond to shifts in that market to remain relevant. Essential/Driving Question(s) for Unit & Projects and sub-questions Essential Question: How can events in your life guide you to a successful metamorphosis? Sub Questions: Focus 1: What freedoms does a person have opportunites for, when they aren’t tied down with possessions or debt? (tangible and intangible)?Focus 2: How can change lead to positive outcomes? How can building tiny homes be a ‘new deal’ for the homeless in the 21st century? Focus 3: How can difficult times lead to the development of new opportunities? Project Idea(s)(Summary of the projects and the resulting product (deliverables) – please include (and name) THREE projects for your discipline(s) for this unit) PROJECT 1: Informational poster about tiny home movement.PROJECT 2: Build scale model of tiny home.PROJECT 3: Estimate cost of building WWII 12 man barrack.Content Standards addressed: (include CCSS, CA standards, and ELD standards)Building Construction Anchor Standards3.5 Integrate changing employment trends, societal needs, and economic conditions into career planning.7.8 Explore issues of global significance and document the impact on the Building and Construction Trades sector.8.2 Identify local, district, state, and federal regulatory agencies, entities, laws, and regulations related to the Building and Construction Trades industry sector.10.1 Interpret and explain terminology and practices specific to the Building and Construction Trades sector.10.4 Collaborate with industry experts for specific technical knowledge and skills.D.
