CJ 216 Selected Topics in Criminal Justice C-3, P-0, Cr-3

Course Description:

This course provides the opportunity to investigate different aspects of the criminal justice system in greater depth. Topics considered vary each semester; see Dean of Public and Human Services for specific offerings.

Student Learning Outcomes:

The student will be able to:

1. Analyze contemporary issues in criminal justice using the format of: 1) claim or proposition, 2) evidence or support, and 3) warrants.

2. Analyze film, written and oral presentations of contemporary issues in criminal justice.

3. Prepare and present a formal presentation of a contemporary criminal justice

issue in a debate format.

4. Explain the importance of specific contemporary issues in historical terms.

5. Integrate the issue at hand with related aspects of the American criminal justice system.

Major Topics:

Topics vary by semester. See Dean for specific topics. Each topic should consider:

I. Historical overview of the issue

II. Placement of the issue in its current criminal justice context

III. Applications related to criminal justice practice, as appropriate

IV. Theory and research related to the issue
