Reminder:

Parents, we would really appreciate it if you could take a look inside your child's backpack and make sure that everything inside of it contributes to a successful day of learning. Toys, pinecones, rocks, crafting supplies like beads, glitter, yarn, etc, and having excessive supplies such as 10 glue sticks are just a handful of examples of things that should be left at home. Thank you for your help!

Box Tops App:

Have you signed up for the Box Tops App? It's totally free to download from the Google Play store or Apple Apps. You just have to choose Highland Lakes as your school and everytime you shop, take a picture of the receipt through the App and the money is automatically credited to our school! No more clipping box tops! However, there are still a few products that count on the receipt AND you can send in the physical box top for double the money :) This is a screenshot from our PTSO president's phone showing what the App looks like. It's super easy to use!

Academics

From Mrs. Vickers in ELA: Digital books will be due Friday, Oct. 4th. Don't forget the Wordly Wise Vocabulary test lesson 3 is tomorrow...along with weekly DOL quiz!

From Mrs. Kessler in math: We will be finishing up Module 1 by the end of the week... and starting Module 2. In module 2, students apply the patterns of the base ten system to mental strategies and the multiplication and division algorithms. Topics A through D provide a sequential study of multiplication. Topics E through H provide a similar sequence for division.

Keep doing 30 minutes of Dreambox each week!! It is a graded homework assignment.

From Mrs. Chavarria in science & social studies: This week we have been learning about the skeletal system through a set of 8 learning stations and kiddos have been ROCKING IT! If you're looking to be impressed, ask your child what the difference is between the Axial and Appendicular skeletal systems...or ask them what are the five functions of our skeletal system? They have been learning A LOT of new words and doing well with content heavy material :) Next week we will continue our human body unit but we will shift our focus to the muscular system.
