TAA Coordination of Benefits
An individual enrolled in training sponsored by the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program may apply for financial assistance to offset the costs of training to TAA if the requested training program would not otherwise be approved because estimated costs exceed what is allowable. Financial aid that may be considered includes grants, scholarships and other non-loan financial assistance. If the individual elects to file for financial aid, a representative of the training institution must provide the following information for the individual seeking TAA training approval.

|The Trade and Globalization Adjustment Assistance Act of 2009 amended Section 235 of the Trade Act to specify that adversely affected workers and |
|adversely affected incumbent workers covered by a Trade Act certification receive certain employment and case management services. The |
|Connecticut Department of Labor, as the cooperating state agency, is required to provide workers with information on how to apply for financial |
|aid. The information must include the following notification: |

|Important Advisory |Workers may request financial aid administrators at institutions of higher education* to use the administrators’ discretion|
| |under section 479A of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. § 1087tt) to use current year income data, rather than |
| |preceding year income data, for determining the amount of need of the workers for Federal financial assistance under title |
| |IV of such Act (20 U.S.C. §§ 1070 et seq.). |
