Dealing with Window Tint:

1. Have the operator roll down ALL the windows (especially at night) 2. Use the "call-back" or "call-out" method 3. If you insist on approaching, approach on the passenger side 4. If approaching at night, have the operator activate ALL interior lights (i.e.

dome lights)

Night-Time Traffic Stops

Patrol car spotlight: Remember the basics:

1. Patrol car spotlight should be aimed into the drivers side view mirror; 2. Activate the spotlight before activating your overhead lights. This will

provide you with the best view of the operator as they are stopping their vehicle; pay attention to sholulder blades and watch for furitive movements.

Take-Down Lights:

Consider turning off all forward flashing lights, keeping your rear lights on for safety.

Flashlight Techniques: ? Avoid shining your flashlight toward the violators vehicle as you are making your approach; ? Never carry your flashlight in your dominant/weapon hand while conducting a vehicle stop; (Exception: if needed as an impact weapon) ? Always evaluate the need to have a flashlight in your hand; you'll be surprised by the amount of "natural light" which may be available.

Back up units: As you are approaching the primary unit, turn off your forward flashing lights and

headlights. Don't backlight fellow officers.
