Enjoy up to 50% savings through RapidKL’s Monthly Travel Card beginning 1st September 2009

Petaling Jaya, 30 July 2009: Users of RapidKL’s bus service can now enjoy savings of up to 50% when they purchase the monthly travel pass in line with the restructured fare which will be zone based. The new zone based fare will commence 1st September 2009.

RapidKL will introduce two new passes – Tempatan and Konsesi pass. This is in addition to the three monthly passes currently available – Integrated, LRT only and Bus only monthly travel pass.

CEO for RapidKL, Suffian Baharaddin, says that the sale of the monthly passes will commence selling from the 20th of August to the 7th September 2009. These passes will offer a savings of up to 50% compared to paying the zone based fare on a daily basis.

People who use of RapidKL’s services frequently are encouraged to get the monthly passes which offers a savings in travel costs when compared to buying a ticket each time one gets on board, he said in a statement here today.

The new rates for tickets and passes are as follows:

|Type of Monthly Travel Card |Type of service |Price (RM) |

|Monthly travel card for Tempatan Buses |Valid for all routes on Tempatan service |RM40 (new) |

Suffian says that RapidKL will introduce a fare structure based on zones for all the 165 existing routes beginning 1st September 2009, following a recent government decision to raise bus fares according to the new rates proposed by the LPKP.

The new fare structure will replace the current fare structure which is day pass system. The new rates concept of a zone based fare structure follows a system that is used by RapidKL’s competitors in the Klang Valley.

At present, the current fare system of daily bus passes is based on a system introduced in 2006. Passengers pay RM1 for a whole day bus pass on the Tempatan line and RM2 for daily bus passes on the Utama and Bandar lines. Passengers using the Ekspres service are currently paying RM3 for a one way journey or RM5 for a daily bus pass.

The new rates according to the zonal system are as per below:

|Existing RapidKL bus fare |New RapidKL fare structure |

|(daily bus pass) |(one way) |

|Tempatan : RM1.00 |RM1.00 |

|Existing bus fare (daily bus pass) |New RapidKL fare structure |

| |(one way) |

|Bandar : RM2.00 |RM1.00 |

|Existing bus fare (daily bus pass) |New RapidKL fare structure |

| |(one way) |

|Utama : RM2.00 |Travel within a zone RM1.00 |

| |Across 2 zones RM1.90 |

| |Across 3 zones RM2.50 |

| |Across 4 zones RM3.00 |

|Existing RapidKL bus fare |New RapidKL fare structure |

|(daily bus pass) |(one way) |

|Express : RM3.00 (one) | RM3.80 |

|RM5.00 (daily pass) | |

Bus fare for travel across more than 4 zones will be charged at the maximum fare rate of RM3 for a one way journey.

Due to technical issues, fare payment using the Touch n Go system will have to be put on hold beginning 1st September 2009. RapidKL is in the midst of rectifying these issues and will inform the public once the problems are resolved.

RapidKL will also offer a 50% discount on concession tickets offered to students in uniform, the elderly (60 years and above) and also the disabled on all Tempatan, Utama, Bandar and Ekspres bus services. At present, the concession fares are only offered on the Utama and Bandar services.

Concession fare structure is as follows:

|Type of Service |RapidKL New Concession Fare Structure |

| |(one way) |

|Tempatan |RM0.50 |

|Bandar |RM0.50 |

|Utama |Travel within a zone RM0.50 |

| |Across 2 zones RM0.90 |

| |Across 3 zones RM1.20 |

| |Across 4 zones RM1.50 |

|Ekspres |RM1.90 |

Inline with the revised fare structure, 9 Tempatan services will be converted to the Utama service because the route distance covers more than 1 zone.

The routes affected are:

|Current bus number |New Bus number |From |Destination |

|T412 |U412 |Pangsun |Batu 9, Cheras |

|T415 |U415 |Beranang |Kajang |

|T423 |U423 |TUDM Sungei Besi |KL Sentral |

|T429 |U429 |Putrajaya Sentral |Cyberjaya |

|T432 |U432 |Puncak Jalil | LRT Sungei Besi |

|T601 |U601 |Klang |Hentian Bandar Shah Alam |

|T605 |U605 |Puncak Perdana |Sek 2 Shah Alam |

|T618 |U618 |Titiwangsa |Kompleks Kerajaan Jalan Duta |

|T623 |U623 |LRT Kelana Jaya |Subang Parade |

Route T432, which is a Tempatan service which currently is from Puncak Jalil

to Serdang KTM Station will now be converted to a Utama route and the route will be extended to Sungei Besi LRT Station so passenger may transit and have a choice of using the LRT to go on to their respective destinations if they so wish.

Suffian also reminds passengers to retain their tickets for inspection by RapidKL’s inspectors or they will be asked to purchase a new ticket if they are found to travel without a valid ticket.

He assures passengers that RapidKL will stay committed to providing commuters in the Klang Valley with quality bus service for 18 hours a day beginning 6am until midnight. This includes service to 23 low-demand routes (social routes).

RapidKL would also like to assure commuters that we will continuously work toward increasing the quality of service provided which includes increasing the size of RapidKL’s existing fleet of buses which would improve bus frequency and reduce waiting times and reduce congestion on the bus.
