APPLICATION: Clarence Schultz Sociology ScholarshipThe Clarence Schultz Sociology Scholarship was created to honor the long and exemplary teaching career of Distinguished Professor Emeritus Clarence C. Schultz and in appreciation of his numerous other contributions to Texas State University - San Marcos and to the Department of Sociology. This scholarship is awarded each fall semester until such time as the earnings from the endowment warrant an award for the spring semester. The decision to extend the award to the spring semester is to be made by the department chair based on the recommendation of the departmental personnel committee. The recipient will receive the funds from the Office of Financial Aid in the form of payment of tuition and fees. In the event that the award is greater than the recipients total tuition and fees bill for that semester the recipient will receive the remainder of the award in the form of a check issued by the Office of Financial Aid. The amount of the award is $500.To be considered, the student must be an undergraduate sociology major at Texas State University and be enrolled full-time (12 or more hours) during the semester(s) the award is received. Applicants must have completed 45 credit hours of study with at least 30 hours of credit earned at Texas State University. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.0+ and a GPA of 3.25+ in sociology at the time of application. If the award is distributed over two semesters, GPA averages must be maintained through the first semester on this Scholarship to continue eligibility for the award for the second semester. The award is for one year only, that is, the recipient may not reapply for the scholarship in subsequent years. The applicant must complete this form in full, compile a list of a list of academic accomplishments, involvement in student organizations, volunteer work etc., and write a brief essay (500 words or less), which explains the applicant’s suitability for the award. Send these documents to SocAwards@txstate.edu. Ask one faculty member to write a letter of recommendation and send it as a Word or PDF document to SocAwards@txstate.edu. The complete application is due the first Friday in February by 5:00.
