A MESSAGE FROM THE CHANCELLOR

Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom,

that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

This scripture from Colossians 1:28 has been the basis of my ministry here at East Coast Christian Center. In 1992, God gave me a vision of a school here on our campus. There needed to be a way through which we could go beyond the Sunday and Wednesday teaching time to an in-depth study of God’s Word, a way to equip Christians to have a greater impact in their community. East Coast Christian University is the answer.

More than just an evening academic program for working adults wanting to finish a college degree, ECCU is for anyone who wants to take their knowledge of the Word to the next level. Whether students are serving strategically in their church or pursuing full-time ministry as a vocation, this university offers a practical way for them to grow in knowledge and application of the Word of God.

ECCU has also become a gateway for connection within our local community. Because it is open to anyone who would like to attend, the student body consists of pastors and artists, blue-collar workers and business executives, young adults and retirees; a diverse group that brings a variety of life experience to the classroom. This cross-section of cultural, economic, and vocational backgrounds provides a rich environment for academic growth and a solid foundation for new relationships.

It is our goal at ECCU to deliver Biblical truths in terms that immediately translate into everyday life. Through ECCU, we are able to continue in our vision of building a life-giving church that lasts. If God is calling you to go deeper and come up higher, you should definitely consider being a part of

EAST COAST CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY.

Dan Stallbaum

THE ECCU MISSION

Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.(Ephesians4:11—13)

East Coast Christian University is building believers who know whom and whose they are and training them to effectively utilize the tools God gave them. We have specifically targeted classes within the first two years to develop tools every believer needs to successfully navigate this life, spiritually. Truth mixed with love administered by leaders speaking from their passionate calling will impact you as never before. Once and for all time, you will learn who you are, whose you are, and know how to practically exercise the tools Papa God gave you. Our Father did not mean for his children to stagnate nor flounder. We are made to grow and accomplish exploits.

For those who wish to continue studies toward a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate in Theology, we have the resources on hand to accelerate your growth.

The foundation has been laid. East Coast Christian University is specially set up for you to keep your job, stay in your church, learn about God and His Word, put to practice what you have learned and, if you wish, earn a Degree in Theology. We have classroom and online access to facilitate your growth.

For those who want to learn but are not concerned about a degree, we have an audit program to give all the books, basic information and personal interaction with fellow students and instructors without testing and term papers. Audit students receive a certificate of completion for reference at other schools and ministries.

If you are hungry for more of God and if you want your life to be completely transformed, I invite you to come and grow with us. Come, and I guarantee you will never be the same. See you in class.

J. Marvin Alderman

Provost, East Coast Christian University

STATEMENT OF FAITH

THE SALVATION OF MAN

We are saved from the penalty of sin exclusively through acceptance of God’s offer of forgiveness. This forgiveness came through the crucifixion, death, and bodily resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. We are unable to achieve this forgiveness through any other means or methods. Jesus Christ’s sacrifice enabled the great rescue wherein we receive by faith absolute erasure of even the memory of our sins for all of eternity.. We are granted eternal life, and we become the adopted children of God. (John 3:16, John 14:6, Romans 4:4-5, Romans 6:23, Galatians 4:4-7, Hebrews 8:12, Hebrews 10:17)

EVIDENCE OF SALVATION

The evidence of salvation is seen internally and externally. The internal evidence is the direct witness of the Holy Spirit. The external evidence is the fruit of the Spirit, as we have become new creations as we are transformed into the image of Christ. (Romans 8:16, Galatians 5:22-23, 2 Corinthians 3:18)

ORDINANCES OF THE CHURCH

Water Baptism

Baptism by immersion is a public profession of our faith, and is symbolic of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is our testimony to others that we have chosen to die to sin and have now been raised to walk in newness of life. Under the New Covenant, followers of Jesus Christ submit to a ceremony of baptism where they formally identify with His death and resurrection, permanently identifying themselves as members of His family. (Matthew 28:19, Romans 6:4, Hebrews 10:22)

Communion

The Lord’s Supper consists of the bread that represents the broken body of Jesus Christ and the cup which represents His shed blood, and is both a memorial of Jesus’ suffering and death and a celebration of our salvation. (1 Corinthians 11:26, 2 Peter 1:4)

THE CHURCH AND ITS MISSION

The Church is the body of Christ, made up of all those who are Believers in the one true God and His gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. The collective purpose of the church is to worship God, equip Believers for ministry, and fulfill the Great Commission. (Mark 16:15-20, 1 Corinthians 12:12-28, Ephesians 4:11-13)

ETERNITY

Every person ever created will either exist forever in the Kingdom of heaven with God, or in hell, forever separated from God. Where a person spends eternity depends entirely on their decision to choose or refuse forgiveness and salvation. Once a person dies a physical death, this choice is final. No power in the Universe can separate a Believer from God and, conversely, nothing can be done for an unbeliever who dies apart from God. (Matthew 25:31-46, Romans 2:1-9, Romans 8:35, 38-39, 1 Corinthians 4:5, Revelation 20:10-15, Revelation 21:1-22)

ABSOLUTES, CONVICTIONS, AND PREFERENCES

Scripture is the absolute authority in all matters of faith and, as such, is the final Word on what is absolute. Outside of the Scriptural realm of absolutes, convictions are those areas in which Believers are responsible to God for choices pertaining to their personal values. Preferences are neither absolutes nor convictions; rather, they are reflective of one’s desires based on traditions or individual taste.

THE BIBLE

It is the infallible, inerrant Word of God. It is the only supernaturally-inspired, written revelation from God to man, and is the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:15-17, 1 Peter 2:22)

GOD

There is one true God. He is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe, and has revealed Himself as eternally-existent in a three-part Trinity, the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit, who are co-equal. (Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10-11, Matthew 28:19)

JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God. The second person of the Trinity, He was born of a virgin through miraculous conception. He lived a sinless life, offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for all sins, died on the cross, and arose after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He sits at the right hand of God as the exclusive mediator between God and man, and will return again to earth to rule and reign. (Matthew 1:18-23, Matthew 28:1-6, Acts 1:9, 11, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 John 3:4-5)

THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, equal with God the Father and Jesus the Son. He remains on earth as the Comforter for every Believer, empowering them with an understanding of spiritual truth. There are nine fruit of the Spirit, which are evidence of a Spirit-filled life and spiritual maturity. (John 14:16-17, John 14:26, 1 Corinthians 12:31, 1 Corinthians 14, Galatians 5:22-23)

THE FALL OF MAN

We were created in the image and likeness of God. Adam’s voluntary choice to disobey God, however, led to the first sin, which brought into effect the cursed earth, began the process of physical death, and caused spiritual separation from God. We exist in eternal separation from God unless we accept the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. (Genesis 1:26, Genesis 3:1-7, Genesis 3:17, Romans 5:12-21)
