You should be able to identify them in a paragraph. Part IV: Be able to read a text and classify it as one of the four types of author’s purpose:Writing to entertain – If the author’s purpose is to amuse the reader.Writing to persuade – If the author’s purpose is to convince the reader.Writing to inform – If the author’s purpose is to expose information to the reader.Writing to teach – If the author’s purpose is to guide the reader step by step.Part V: Be able to identify the author’s point of view in a text:The opinions, beliefs, personal judgements and attitudes that the author shares with the reader through the text. How the author feels about the topic.Part VI: Be able to recognize story elements in a text:Conflict: The problem that the characters face in the story.Characters: The people, animal or things involved in the action of the story.Title: The name that the author has given to the piece of writing.
