States of Matter Poster Project

States/Phases of Matter Poster Project

Grade 8 ~ Physical Science

Directions:

Use the graphic organizers completed in class to create your poster. All posters need to be colored. Neatness/Effort will impact your grade on this project.

* Hold your paper horizontally

States of Matter - Front Side

1. Using a ruler divide the poster into 3 different sections and label each- solids, liquids, gases at the top.

2. Definition or description of each of the states of matter. You may hand write it neatly or type it.

3. Draw or cut from magazines, the Internet, or newspapers; real life examples of each state of matter

Solids: You should include and label 3 or more examples

Liquids: You should include and label 3or more examples

Gases: You should include 3 or more examples

4. Include a particle arrangement drawing for each state of matter (water is a good example to use)

5. Include any interesting facts that you discover about a solid, liquid, or gas (ie: different types of solids – crystalline vs. amorphous)

Phase Changes - Back Side

1. Using a ruler divide the poster paper into 5 equal sections and label each – Melting, Freezing, Evaporation, Condensation, Sublimation.

2. Definition or description of each of the phase changes. You may hand write it neatly or type it.

3. Draw or cut from magazines or the Internet real life examples of phase changes. You should have one good drawing/graphic for each phase change and explain the phase change in your example.

5. Draw the change in phase at the molecular level. Be sure to show if thermal energy is added or removed with a labeled arrow. (exothermic or endothermic)

6. Include any interesting facts that you discover about any of the phase changes (ie: different types of vaporization – boiling vs. evaporation)
