The Four Governments of Ancient Greece
The Four Governments of Ancient Greece
Aim: What were the different characteristics of ancient Greece’s four governments?
Objective: Students will be able to compile all of the information they learned on the four governments (Monarchy, Oligarchy, Tyranny, Democracy). This chart will serve as a useful resource guide.
Do Now: If we had a class government, how would you want it to be? Who should be in charge? Should it stay the same it is now? What changes would you make? How should students be treated – equally or different? Explain your answer.
Context Clues:
The students decided to make their school a democracy, so they elected a class President by voting for someone of their choice.
1) Write your own definitions of democracy and elected.
2) Write your own sentences using the words democracy and elected.
Procedure:
• Students will use their work from before the break to complete the chart, which will act as an easy reference guide to the four different governments of ancient Greece.
• Students will work independently, and must rely on the notes that they took.
• Once all students have completed the chart, the class will discuss the answers together.
