|Students will learn about the types of landforms in Texas by reading books, learning about maps, observing pictures, watching movies, using|

|computer software, and taking field trips outdoors. Students will also learn the names and locations of several major cities in Texas. |

|Students will then use a combination of the information learned to create a state of their own incorporating imaginary cities and several |

|different landforms. |

|Students will learn about the major cities and landforms in Texas. They will learn where these cities and landforms are located on a map |

|through worksheets and textbooks. They should be able to identify the types of landforms by looking at pictures. |

|113.4.5 Geography. The student uses simple geographic tools such as maps, globes, and photographs. The student is expected to: |

|(A) use symbols, find locations, and determine directions on maps and globes; and |

|(B) draw maps to show places and routes. |

|113.4.6 Geography. The student understands the locations and characteristics of places and regions. The student is expected to: |

|(A) identify major landforms and bodies of water, including continents and oceans, on maps and globes; |

|(B) locate the community, Texas, the United States, and selected countries on maps and globes; and |

|(C) compare information from different sources about places and regions. |

|Procedures |

|The unit will be introduced by reading books and looking at different websites in the computer lab. It will be continued by observing maps|

|and learning the major cities of the state. The students will then create a state of their own with their own cities and landforms. |

|Approximate Time Needed (Example: 45 minutes, 4 hours, 1 year, etc.) |

|Entire unit should take about 10-12 days. |

|Prerequisite Skills |

|Students should have a general knowledge of language arts in order to accurately understand descriptions. Students should also have a |

|basic knowledge of direction (left, right, up, down) in order to build a concept of directions on a map. |
