Room for extra work

1) (30 Points) In the video we watched in class, Gilbane Gold, the character David Jackson made one choice for his actions as a water treatment engineer. List as many possible choices for action as you can that David Jackson could have chosen in this situation. For each one, write one sentence stating whether you believe that that choice would be ethical, and whether you believe that choice would be acceptable to ZCorp.

2) (10 Points) If you choose to pursue an undergraduate degree in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, how many degree plans are available to you? Which of these are currently accredited? What is the name of the degree that results from each?

3) (10 Points) Write the names of the people who hold each of the following jobs in this college:

a) Director of Undergraduate Studies, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

b) Chair, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

c) Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs, Cullen College of Engineering

d) Dean, Cullen College of Engineering

4) (15 Points) An engineering student works 45 hours per week at a job, working five days a week. The job is a 30 minute drive from her home. She is taking 12 semester credit hours of engineering courses at UH, attending classes four days a week. She lives an hour away from school. Assume that she sleeps seven hours a night, and eats/cooks two hours a day. It takes her about an hour every day for showers and other personal activities. Further, assume that she relaxes with her friends for 12 hours every weekend. Under the “Rule of 4”, does she have an appropriate schedule? Explain, briefly.

5) (20 Points) Describe three of the episodes of The Engines of Our Ingenuity, by John Lienhard. What was the episode about? Use about three complete sentences to describe each of the episodes.

6) (15 Points) The Landis book tries to answer the question “What is engineering?” In class, Dr. Shattuck tried to answer the same question. Contrast the two answers given, explaining the similarities between the two answers, and the differences. Use several complete sentences to give your answer.
