Deep Run High School
Objective: To study U.S. History from the Age of Discovery to the present. We will also study political
Development including forms of government. The students will also analyze the cause and
effects of economics on developments in the U.S., as well as the impact of geography on U.S.
History.

Evaluation: The student will be evaluated on subject matter with one to three tests each nine weeks.
Unit tests will be given after two to three SOL’s are taught. One to ten quizzes will
also be given (on the subject material, as well as independent areas of study) per nine weeks.
Homework will consist of readings, vocabulary, and study questions to reinforce the
areas of study. Random homework quizzes will be given the following class as a
means of checking homework.
Grading System: Tests and projects are 40% of the nine weeks grade. Quizzes are 30% of the nine weeks
grade. Classwork and homework will be averaged together as 30% of the nine weeks
grade. The Henrico County grading scale will be used: 100-93= A, 92-85= B, 84-77= C,
76-70= D, and 69-Below= F. At the end of each semester, the students will be required
to take an exam that will count 1/7th of their semester grade. A student who passes the
State’s S.O.L. test will be exempt from his or her second semester exam.
Special Notes: 1. A three ring two inch binder with notebook paper is required for lecture notes and
assignments.
2. Work will not be accepted on anything but loose-leaf paper.
3. Any student needing to make up work, should make an appointment with Mr.
Pritchard. My room # is 228.
Class Rules: 1. Report to class on time.
2. Always (everyday) come prepared to class with a writing utensil, notebook, and your
laptop. Failure to do so will result in a zero classwork grade for that day.
3. No eating (including gum) or drinking in class. This will result in detention.
4. No sleeping in class. This will result in detention.
5. No talking while the teacher is talking.
6. Late work will have one letter grade deducted for each day the assignment is late.
7. 7. When a student is absent from class and misses daily class work or quizzes, the student will have 3 school days to make up the work. Any work not made up after this time will be given a zero. It is the student’s responsibility to request make- up work.
*Tests are expected to be made up and projects turned in the following day. These
will be assigned well in advance of the due date. One letter grade will be deducted
for each day the assignment is late or the test is not made up.

Independent Study: 1. First semester we will learn U.S. geography and the 27 amendments to the
Constitution. Daily quizzes will be given in these areas.
2. Second semester we will have daily S.O.L. quizzes to prepare for the state’s S.O.L.
test.
3. 3. Each semester the student will be required to complete one – two independent
projects. Each project will count as a TEST grade.
