i have tiny core plus because it would fit on a cd and the old compaq evo n620c does not have boot from stick memory. but I have not got any software because I don't know what things are. I tried curl and wget to see if i could put bionic beaver on it though only 512M of memory. curl not found wget invalid option ?0.

I'd like advice if it is real simple, but don't want to take up your time if it is not.

Ubuntu Budgie 18.04.5 LTS (Bionic Beaver)

Ubuntu-Budgie is distributed on two types of images described below.

Desktop image.

The desktop image allows you to try Ubuntu-Budgie without changing your computer at all, and at your option to install it permanently later. This type of image is what most people will want to use. You will need at least 1024MiB of RAM to install from this image.

Choose this if you have a computer based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon, Core 2). If you have a non-64-bit processor made by AMD, or if you need full support for 32-bit code, use the i386 images instead. Choose this if you are at all unsure.

For almost all PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and almost all computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors.

Lubuntu.

The Wily Werewolf edition of the Lubuntu Linux operating system, built on top of LXDE.

Lubuntu is part of the Ubuntu Linux initiative and aims to provide a freely distributed, open source, lightweight, and portablecomputer operating system that relies on the latest technologies from the world's most popular free OS, Ubuntu. It is built around LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment).

Available for 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.

Lubuntu is distributed as live, installable ISO images that support both 64-bit (x86_64/amd64) and 32-bit (x86/i386) hardware architectures.

The boot options.

Lubuntu is available for download for free, always, as ISO images. It is currently distributed in two editions, Desktop and Alternate, supporting the aforementioned CPU architectures. The user can write the ISO images to either USB sticks or DVD discs. The boot options have not changed from the previous version of the distribution and allow users to try the operating system without installing it, check the bootable medium for defects (only if booting from a DVD), start the installation directly, boot an existing OS from the first disk drive, or test their computer's memory.

Lightweight, easy-to-use, and very fast desktop interface.

As mentioned, Lubuntu is built around the LXDE desktop environment, which has been designed from the offset to be low on resources. Thus, Lubuntu has been targeted at low-end machines or computers with old and semi-old hardware components. LXDE's desktop layout consists of single panel (taskbar) located on the bottom edge of the screen, which includes the usual applets that help you interact easily with the OS, such as Applications Menu, Applications Launcher, Task Manager, Workspace Switcher, and System Tray.

Offers a great set of open-source applications.

Default applications include, PCManFM file manager, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Sylpheed email client, AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, Transmission torrent downloader, Leafpad text editor, Audacious audio player, GNOME MPlayer video player, Xpad notetaking app, mtPaint graphic editor, Simple Scan image scanner, Xfburn CD/DVD burning software, gubcview webcam viewer, GParted partition editor, Synaptic Package Manager, as well as the UXTerm, LXTerminal and XTerm terminal emulators.

Server install image.

The server install image allows you to install Ubuntu permanently on a computer for use as a server. It will not install a graphical user interface.

There is one image available:

64-bit PC (AMD64) server install image Choose this if you have a computer based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon, Core 2). Choose this if you are at all unsure.

If you require LVM, RAID, multipath, network vlans, or network interface bonding during the installation; if you need to reuse existing partitions on your installation disk; or for support for other architectures besides AMD64/EM64T, see the alternative images location.

Why is there no 32 bit ISO for the new Ubuntu 18.04?

There are 32 bit ISO from the new 18.04 LTS distro, but not standard Ubuntu. The community flavours have uploaded 32 bit iso files, and some of them are particularly suitable for old 32 bit computers, because they have light desktop environments,

Lubuntu Ubuntu Budgie Ubuntu MATE Xubuntu.

You can find them via the following link. Look for 'i386' in the name of the iso file.

You can use the Ubuntu mini.iso files in order to install Ubuntu in BIOS mode (but not in UEFI mode), and there is a 32-bit version with 'i386' in the name of the mini.iso file. See this link,

So it is possible to install standard Ubuntu in a 32-bit computer, but in most cases it is better to use a community flavour of Ubuntu with a lighter desktop environment, because standard Ubuntu 'wants' more powerful hardware for graphics that what is common in most 32-bit computers.

However, there may be cases, when you want to run a 32-bit operating system in a 64-bit computer, for example if you have some application software, that only works with a 32-bit system, or because a 32-bit system uses less RAM for the same task compared to a 64-bit system.

Wow. A lot of misinformation here.

Ubuntu can still be run on 32-bit PCs and Ubuntu still provide 32-bit installers. All Ubuntu have stopped doing is producing 32-bit Live installer images. The other type of installer image - the network installer - is still available in both 64-bit and 32-bit (along with other architectures like arm64 and armhf which were never available as Live installers).

The network installer images don't boot to a live Ubuntu desktop instance, just to a basic installer that you can use to install Ubuntu onto your machine. If you've ever installed Debian, it's a bit like their installer. They are small images because they fetch almost all packages from the internet during installation (this is why they are called a network installer). This means that the installer can't be used without an internet connection. That said, this is a perfectly convenient way of installing Ubuntu these days, since most people have a permanent internet connection and the installer is light weight and has no frills.

Note that if you have a 64-bit capable machine, and you are not severely limited in physical RAM (ie, you have at least half a gigabyte) there is no good reason not to run 64-bit Ubuntu on it.
