STAT 3311 Statistical Analysis for Natural Sciences

( Software Needed: To take Stat 3311 online, you need internet access (Internet Explorer and/or Firefox) and Microsoft Office (Words, PowerPoint and Excel).

( Catalog Description: Basic concepts of statistics for natural science students are considered including collection of data, descriptive statistics, probability concepts, random variables, probability distributions, expected values, point and interval estimation techniques, hypothesis testing, bivariate data, linear regression, and analysis of variance.

( Textbook: Peck and Devore, Statistics – The Exploration and Analysis of Data, 6th edition, Thomson Brooks/Cole, 2008.

( Online Tests: There are three online tests on the dates listed above. Each test lasts 2 hours and worth 100 points. The tests are on Blackboard Vista.

( Final Exam: A comprehensive online exam will be given on Monday, May 9. The final exam is at WebAssign.

( Grading Scale: There are totally 500 points: 100 points from homework, 100 from final comprehensive exam, and 300 from three exams. Your course grade depends on how many points you can accumulate:

A: 450 or more, B: 400 – 449, C: 350 – 399, D: 300 – 349, F: 299 or below

( Extra Credit: Lecture notes of Chapter 14, which is not required, will also be available on line. Students may study the notes and complete the assignments to earn extra credit (10 bonus points).
